Cradle Mountain Highlanders offers secluded cabin accommodation on the edge of Cradle Mountain National Park. There are twelve self-contained cabins nestled in temperate rainforest on the 10 acre property which enjoys views of Cradle Mountain. Cradle Mountain Highlanders is two minutes drive from the entrance to Cradle Mountain National Park and 200 metres from the Cradle Information Centre and Shuttle Bus Terminal. Whether you are traveling with family or friends, on your honeymoon or just looking for a special place to escape and relax on a short break stay, there is a cabin here to suit you. The cabins are self-contained and self-catering, some built just for two, others sleeping up to six. Ten of the cabins have log fires, and three have spa baths, all are well-appointed and full of rustic mountain charm. With wildlife at your doorstep, alpine rainforest all around and a rustic mountain cabin to call home, you will really feel close to nature when you make Cradle Mountain Highlanders your base for exploring the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park. The cabins are all hand built in a traditional mountain style and feature lovely natural timbers inside and out. Each cabin has its own unique character, but they all have fully equipped kitchens, private decks or verandas, television, clock radio, electric blankets, hair dryers and pure Tasmanian mountain water on tap.

Getting there:
Quickest routes to Cradle Mountain : Devonport via Sheffield 1.25 hours Burnie via B18& 132 highways 1.5 hours Launceston via A1 highway & Sheffield 2 hours Launceston via A1 highway & Mole Creek 2.5 hours Hobart via Launceston & Sheffield 4.5 hours Hobart via Queenstown 6 hours The above routes are mainly on arterial highways. If you have the time, Tasmania has lots of interesting little towns which have now been by-passed by these highways. The entrance to Cradle Mountain Highlanders is 1.5 km before the entrance to Cradle Mountain National Park on the 132 highway. The cottages cannot be seen from the roadside; only a hand carved sign saying 'HIGHLANDERS' is situated on the right hand side of the road just past Cradle Information Centre (Shuttle bus terminus) and cafe bistro which is on your left. Drive up the laneway and you will find reception.

Check-in is between 2.30 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. If you plan on arriving outside these times, please give us a call and let us know.

highlanders cottages are excellently appointed, modern and clean. the pot belly warmed the room and the cottages are well positioned being minutes from the national park. the staff were lovely and friendly and we would highly recommend the cottages.

This accommodation is not your 5-star hotel, but a really nice log-cabin style experience. I found it quite cozy, well placed and extremely good value for money. The stand-out for me was the staff, who were very helpful and probably the friendliest people I have met in a long time.

Bushmans Hut Cabin

A small cabin full of charm, with a double bush bed with a single above, sofa, gas heater and TV in an open plan room, a small kitchen with gas oven and mineral water on tap, a separate bathroom with shower over hip bath, and a sunny verandah.

Lanceolata Cottage

A spacious cottage for two,with a sofa bed for extra guests. It has a lounge/kitchen area with mineral water on tap, microwave, hot plates, TV, wood heater and sofa, a separate bedroom area with queen sized bed and electric blanket and a bathroom with bath/shower.

Woodsmoke Cottage

Built just for two in its own little forest dell, this cottage has a cosy kitchen/lounge area with wood fire and recliner chairs, microwave, bench top hot plate and mineral water on tap, a separate bedroom area with TV, queen sized bed and electric blanket, and bathroom with bath/shower.

Wombat/Pademelon Cottage

Two warm and cosy open plan cabins each accommodating up to four guests, with a wood fire, sofa, TV, double bed and set of bunks in the living/sleeping area, a well equipped kitchen with gas oven and microwave, and a separate bathroom with shower over hip bath.

Pandani Cottage

Family size two storey cottage with a large well equipped kitchen with gas oven, microwave and mineral water on tap, an open-plan living/dining room with TV, gas heater, metal action double sofa bed and dining table, a bathroom with shower and two separate sleeping areas upstairs, one with queen size bed and electric blanket, the other with two sets of bunks.

Buttongrass Cottage

Tucked away behind a forest of mountain pepper trees, this snug little studio cottage has everything a couple could need for a romantic night or three; rustic hand-made Queen-sized bed, wood-fire, light-filled bathroom with shower/bath, comfortable leather sofa, TV, DVD player, and a well-equipped kitchen complete with gas oven, microwave and large fridge.

Telopea Cottage

This cottage is most suited to couples and honeymooners with a romantic Queen sized four poster bush pole bed, electric blanket, wood fire, TV and sofa in an open plan room, a separate bathroom with corner spa bath (Jacuzzi) and a well equipped kitchen with electric oven, microwave, mineral water on tap and a view of Cradle Mountain from the breakfast bar.

Stringybark Cottage

This spacious 2 bedroom cottages has open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area, gas oven, microwave, TV and wood fire. One bedroom has a queen size bed, the other a double. The second bedroom also has a set of bunks. The bathroom with bath/shower is situated off the living area, between the two bedrooms, and there is a futon sofa in the living room.

Currawong Cottage

This spacious 2 bedroom cottages has open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area, gas oven, microwave, TV and wood fire. One bedroom has a queen size bed, the other a double. The second bedroom also has a trundle bed. The bathroom with bath/shower is situated off the living area, between the two bedrooms, and there is a futon sofa in the living room.

Tallow-wood Cottage

A spa cottage most suited to two couples with a Queen sized bed in an open-plan room containing dining table, wood fire, TV and sofa, a separate bedroom with another Queen sized bed (both beds with electric blankets), a bathroom with corner spa bath (Jacuzzi), and a well equipped kitchen with electric oven, microwave, breakfast bar and mineral water on tap.

Snowgum Cottage

Combining rustic character with exceptional comfort, Snowgum is a very well appointed, spacious open plan cottage for two, with tree-framed views of Cradle Mountain from the lounge, bedroom and private deck. The luxury bathroom features a walk-in shower, heated tiles and a huge rectangular spa bath with mysterious forest views.
