"It might have been the holiday season (end July), but there was an absolute lack of staff. Reception lady was very efficient, though not very hospitable. Deciding to have a drink in the bar, we sait down there for 15 minutes with absolutely no staff there. In the end, we went to the reception desk and asked for our drinks there. And yes, it was the same lady and again she was efficient but not hospitable. In the morning upon check-out there was a note at the reception desk stating 'back in a minute'. After 15 minutes of waiting we decided to leave and let the credit card take care of everything.
The hotel rooms are quite acceptable and knowing now that I need not expect a warm and friendly welcome etc, I would stay there again." - Anonymous
"Excellent choice! The staff are incredibly helpful and most pleasant. The breakfast is comprehensively varied. Wifi access is a bit pricy but, unlike some hotels, the blocks of time you purchase are cumulative and valid for your entire stay. If you log on and off, you can make best use of your time but how to log off is not evident from the wifi interface on your browser. Ask the front desk for the http address for logging off. Hotel de Flandre is located in the hart of the city centre, just several meters from the main attractions of Ghent.
The classical 19th century building has retained much of its original charm. The hotel was recently renovated and now the rooms offer a unique combination of old-world charm and modern comfort.
Each of the 47 rooms boasts a fully equipped bathroom, safe-deposit box, minibar, TV, wireless internet and individually controllable heating.

Hotel de Flandre is ideally located in the heart of Gent and is within walking distance of the Koren- and Graslei, the 900 year old Gravensteen, the Museum of Modern Art, the historic Town Hall, the Opera House, the three towers of Gent - St Baafs cathedral, Sint Niklaas church and Belfort for which Gent is so justly renowned.

•Coming from Brussels follow the signs Aalst, Wetteren, Ghent (E40).
•Coming from Antwerp follow the sign Gent/Sint-Niklaas (E17).
•At the interchange follow the direction Ghent Centre.
•Continue straight ahead, you are now in the Vlaanderenstraat.
•At the end (T-junction) you turn left (Brabantdam).
•Follow Vogelmarkt, Zonnestraat.
•Cross the bridge and take the second street on your right (Onderbergen).
•Pass the church (at your left side you can find the public parking P7) and turn left in the street Sint-Michiels.
•Take the first street right: you are at the Poel and you can find the hotel at your right hand side.
