Gran Arenal is about 12.5 Km (7.8 Miles) apart from the Arenal Volcano crater, 1,3 Km North from La Fortunas Park and on the countryside. This area is located outside the low risk influence zone of the volcano, making Gran Arenal a very nice and safe place to stay in La Fortuna.

Surrounded by natural gardens, peaceful creeks and crowned by the Arenal Volcano, Gran Arenal Hotel is the right place to stay while visiting the Arenal region in La Fortuna de San Carlos, Costa Rica. Gran Arenal is located a couple of minutes away from La Fortuna and just about fifteen minutes drive from Lake Arenal. Hotel facilities include bungalow style rooms, a beautiful open air ranch for breakfast and a swimming pool area. All of Gran Arenal facilities have a beautiful view of the Arenal Volcano. Many birds, butterflies, iguanas and sloth live in the great variety of tropical trees found in the 2.8 acres of hotel property. The hotel has large garden areas for you to enjoy, with many beautiful plants native to the Arenal region. Also coffee and banana plants, which are main Costa Ricas exportation products.

This hotel is located away from the main strip of hotels in the centre of La Fortuna, so you have the peace and quiet, but is only a few minutes drive to the town centre so you can still enjoy the bars and restaurants. The private cabins and well-kept, clean and tastefully decorated. The owner, Luis, is extremely helpful and accommodating and made our stay very pleasant - we even stayed an extra night there rather than booking another hotel.

A real little "hidden" gem. The only bad thing about it was trying to find it. There were no signs within La Fortuna to point us in the right direction from any of the main streets and language barriers prevented us from getting the assistance we needed from locals. The hotel wasn't on any of the local maps. My only suggestion would be to improve the directions listed on the internet website ... such as; to follows signs for another nearby hotel to get you on the correct road. There should also be an explanation not to be shocked that the road leading to this hotel turns into an unpaved road that appears to be heading no where. The staff was extremely helpful in giving us directions for our travels the next day and very apologetic we had trouble finding the hotel in the first place. Very nice people.
