The palazzo del Capitano has reappeared after an extensive and detailed restoration, as a charming hotel with gracious rooms offering modern comforts whilst retaining the fascination of the ancient architecture and enhanced by furnishings following the true Tuscan tradition.
The building which dates back to 1400 is one of the oldest in the historic centre of San Quirico d’Orcia, a small medieval town in the heart of Val d’Orcia in South Tuscany.
The former stables, with the original vaulted ceilings have been converted into a lounge with a bar and a large fireplace. In our garden The delicate perfume of lavender bushes and aromatic herbs accompanies the wanderer during walks underneath the vine covered pergola, in the olive groves, the orchard and through the Mediterranean vegetation.
The characteristic wine cellar guards “treasures” of the most famous Tuscan wines, from Brunello di Montalcino to Nobile di Montepulciano, from Chianti Classico to the more local Orcia d.o.c.
A few steps away from the hotel there is our restaurant “Al Vecchio Forno” where one can try the typical Tuscan dishes, including homemade pasta and other local delights.
Our guests are offered an abundant and varied buffet breakfast served in the dining room located in the former stables. All the rooms are equipped with antique Tuscan furniture and romantic atmosphere, air conditioning/heating, direct dial telephone, TV Sat, safe and private bathroom with shower.

Getting there:
The Palazzo del Capitano lies in San Quirico d’Orcia a beautiful medieval town in the heart of Val d’Orcia recently endorsed by Unesco as world-wide human heritage.
Coming from North
We suggest to follow the A1 “Autostrada del Sole” highway until the Firenze-Certosa exit and take there the road to Siena: there are two different roads one is faster and goes directly to Siena, the other one follows the hills of Chianti and touches many nice towns.
Once arrived in Siena take the exit “Siena Sud” and take the “SS2 Cassia” road to Monteroni d’Arbia then Buonconvento and at last San Quirico d’Orcia.
Coming from South
Follow the A1 – Autostrada del Sole until Chiusi – Chianciano terme then follow the road to Chianciano-Siena. Before Chianciano turn right at the first crossroad and follow the signs to Bagno Vignoni, SS2 Cassia road and San Quirico d’Orcia .

Car parking:
The hotel is located in the historical centre, which is closed for traffic. But you can access to our hotel to load and unload your luggage, entering through the ancient gates “Porta Capuccini”. We would be grateful if you could drive then to the public parking area outside of the historical centre around the ancient walls.
