Howard Johnson Ginwa Plaza Hotel Xi'an

The staff spoke little English. We arrived at 10pm and had to rely on room service to get some food. There didn't seem to be many facilities at the hotel or nearby. The room itself was very large and well maintained. We were only there for about 10 hours so for us the hotel served its purpose well.

Highly recommended. Good value for money, spacious room with v.comfortable bed, cable tv, free internet. About 10 mins walk through bustling area to drum and bell towers and muslim quarter. For best views, go at night when the buildings are lighted up. Lots of modern shopping and fast food outlets nearby. Front desk, housekeeping, room service were all excellent.

Very good hotel , within 15 minutes walk of Bell Tower. Food in the buffet was excellent . Also staff spoke English which was a plus. Downside was the swimming pool was under construction club room felt was abit on the small site . Club Lounge wasnt great plus bar at night had no one in it.

Location is perfect, walk through the South gate and you are centre of Xi'an near the Bell tower, shops, old city, muslim quarter etc. Service of the hotel is very good, reception, bell-boys etc. are always willing to help you. They can give information about tours to e.g. the terracotta warriors and also arrange them. At breakfast you have a lot of choice and good service. Rooms are big, clean and have a magnificent view over Xi'an city. And free internet access for your laptop.

Our room overlooked the southern side of the Xian city wall which was lit up at night and very beautiful. Access to and from the hotel was easiest via Taxi typically costing 6 yuan to get to the Bell Tower and 20 Yuan to get to the Train station.

Staff were extremely helpfull, real service with a smile. The location was also quite good, right next to the south gate giving easy access to the city. Rooms were clean, particularly the Bathrooms. I would reccommend this Hotel for any business or pleasure traveller.

The people in the Business Centre were very friendly and helpful and could tolerate my poor Mandarin. Internet access at the Business Centre was incredibly slow. There was initial concern about slow lifts but I personally did not have this problem, probably because it was non-peak season. The Chinese massage was not very good, the masseurs tending to be quite rough.

I would recommend this hotel if you are visiting Xian. Although not as central as some, was within easy reach of the centre, and had a great view if you request a room on a high floor. The room was beautiful and very clean. The staff were friendly and spoke good english. The hotel restaurant was nice and the food was of a high standard. The hotel offers tour services, but at a much higher cost than you could arrange yourself from the airport car companies. A lovely place to return to after a busy day of sightseeing!
