Although this hotel is set in the Omonia section of Athens - many people had written it was so bad. Well, we didn't think it was that bad. Actually, we found it rather outside the tourist area so prices for other products weren't as much and it was easy to get around. The breakfast was super great ... so good in fact we only ate two meals a day. The hotel rooms are older and our toilet titled ... but really - how long do you spend in the room? They were clean and that's what counts. The staff arranged a private car to take us where our feet could not during the transportation strike. Though the staff could have done a better job pointing out "interesting" things to do - it wasn't that big of a deal because there are several travel agencies near by ready to help if you want to make your own plans. I must say we weren't scared like several sites wrote about the area --- everyone just went on about their business.
Nice and clean hotel, good breakfast.
One has to take the "great" with the "less than great" with this hotel. It is right in downtown Athens just 5 short blocks from a metro station; but some of the surroundings just a little "seedy" (we had no problems nor did we see any). The breakfast included hot steamed milk for the coffee (my favorite!), warm, fresh bread, eggs, cereal, etc; but no fresh fruit (we didn't care; I thought the delicious yogurt on the canned peaches was fabulous)! The hotel had some nice features that made it seem like it was at one time a 4-star hotel, but our room had a balcony door with a broken lock (we didn't complain as we were on the 7th floor). Because of the time of the year (Nov), the cooling system had been turned off but if you open the door/window, you hear the outside city noises. Over all, the price was good, especially with the good breakfast!
Friendly staff, clean and comfortable, great value for money. Superb breakfasts.
This was an ideal hotel for a one night mid-journey break, located near a) near the Metro for arrival from the airport and b) the relevant bus terminal for an early morning departure. Bar was open until late for a cup of tea and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Hotel restaurant only open for breakfast! Central location. Staff helpful.
The Ionis is located near Omonia Square which is a location that doesn't have the best repuation. We found it absolutely fine as there were always people around and there was plenty of light. The room was dated but clean and very good for the price. Easy to get to and very central.
The room was of a good size and did have everything listed but it was very out of date and quite dark and dingy. Reception staff were sometimes rude and abrupt although the kitchen staff were nothing but happy and helpful. Breakfast was good with a wide range of food available (buffet style) but like everywhere in Athens getting a good cup of tea was impossible. If i was to return to Athens it would not be to the ionis as i feel it is only worth 2 1/2 stars not 3 and would recommend people to book hotels in the region of the acropolis.
The hotel is very friendly and has cost-effective price. I really advice to stay here!
Rather old rooms with air con that didn't work. However the rooms were big and the staff helpful.
A good location and much quieter than the more expensive hotels. Location was good and in the midst of a business area making access to most services good. Access to the main attractions was good also. Breakfast was good and the service was great. The room was okay if small but would have appreciated a fan given the summer heat - no airconditioning. Basic but okay for the budget minded and short stay.
We were very happy at this hotel, and would stay there again. The staff were helpful, we were happy with the location and comfortable in our room. There was a bit of an air-con problem, but apart from that, we were more than happy.
Great breakfast. Reception very helpful. Barman makes a great g&t
Close to Omonia Square (a main artery of Athens) but situated in a back street - I had no problems and could walk to the Metro system for convenient transport.
Great place and people loved it. Will go back there soon.
Good hotel for a reasonable price. Near metrostation at Omonia Square so easy to get round the city (only 1 metro station away from the Plaka)
Very central to everything! Shops, supermarkets, metro etc. Ideal if you are there for sightseeing and not intending to spend much time in the city itself.
The Ionis was a pleasant surprise, with the staff friendly, efficient and concerned for our wellbeing. In all aspects we received service above that expected from the price.
The staff were very helpful; the bedrooms well equipped and very clean; there are ensuite facilities with baths as well as showers; and the hotel does a cooked as well as continental breakfast. We thought it was extremely good value and will use it again.
I enjoyed my stay at the Ionis Hotel. The staff are very courteous and accommodating - late check-out at no additional charge. The inclusive breakfast is good value. All round good value for money.
