During this period it is believed the explorers Burke & Wills remains were brought to the railway station for shipment to Victoria. The station was believed to have been visited by the son of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert in 1875. Sister Mary MacKillop and Sir Sidney Kidman used the railway station as did many other famous Australians such as the WWII heroine Nurse Vivienne Bullwinkle. The railway station played a crucial role in the growth of Kapunda and the state of South Australia. Its unique design makes it a key feature on the Kapunda Heritage trail.
