Located on the main road into Wanganui, Kingsgate Hotel The Avenue Wanganui is just a 10 minute walk from the central business district, arts and cultural centre, sports venues, heritage walks, parks, gardens, Whanganui River and Virginia Lake. OK in an ordinary sort of way. Quite a long walk from the city centre/river. Hotel is obsessed with being eco friendly, there are little notes about this everywhere you look in the room, so much so I felt guilty wasting water to wash my hands
Pleased to hear i had been upgraded on arrival. The room however was a little tired and i assume the upgrade meant i was not in a road facing room, hence a peaceful over sleep in the morning. A very pleasant stay however and will certainly stay again.

Very pleasant stay. Very helpful and friendly staff.
An older style building that has been renovated to an outstanding condition. I enjuoyed the friendly atmosphere and the 'a' grade facilities.

Excellent service in the dining room and bar.
The staff at the hotel were nice and helpful. Do not wait until after 5:00PM to go out in town because most business close early. Weekends are dead around the town.

Rooms clean and comfortable. Was a bit perturbed that they put a family with a 1 year old in a 1st level room with a balcony that was safety deficient. Would recommend requesting a ground floor room for families with young children. Otherwise was very happy with the hotel.
Found that the Kingsgate meet all my requirements
Very nicely appointed and comfortable - perhaps a small coffee table could be added to the room but apart from that, everything was very satisfactory. So much so, that we are coming back this coming weekend.
