My husband and I really only needed a place to sleep while visiting with friends running the marathon. The location was perfect and the room was very clean. The room was a bit on the small side but adequate for our needs and the price was great. The staff was very courteous and quite helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

Stayed here during the Nike Women's Half Marathon. Perfect location for this specific event. Close to Powell St. and the cable cars. Friendly staff. Highly Recommended.

I had this room booked for a business purpose on a budget. I was pleased. Not sure if you're looking for a pleasure hotel. The building was old and the room was small. Not as good as the picture in their website. But I really love the location! Everything was walking distance and public transportation was very easy to reach. I just hope they could provide a parking validation to save some cost, but for the room price, it's really a bargain to have it in such a location.

Room and bathroom were very small, but very clean. Beds were comfortable. Location was great. Except the parking garage was around the corner for self park.

We enjoyed buffet breakfast included in our hotel rate and this consisted of fruit juice, croissants, cakes and pastries with apples, bananas and tea or coffee. Our 7th floor room was on the back and although not a large room had everything we wanted - comfortable bed, large TV and a small well equipped ensuite. Rooms on the front may be noisier due to the busy road so higher rooms might be preferable - 8 floors. Great location the hop on and off bus stops at Union Square round the corner. Impressed by friendly staff and free wine tasting event at the hotel for an hour at 5.30pm. Only down side is the lack of free parking it costs 26 dollars a day in nearby public carpark. This is subsidised rate for the hotel (normally 40 dollars per day!). We didn't need the car in San Francisco so rather a waste for us though it made getting to the airport easy at the end of our stay and we would have had to have paid for a taxi instead. Overall highly recommended.

As soon as we walked into the room, I said, "Oh, I'm going to hate having to check out of here tomorrow!" And the beds were so comfortable that we almost didn't leave!

This is an older style hotel a block from Union Square and a 5 - 10 minute walk (uphill) from the Powell St BART station. The room was small but adequate with a bath as well as a shower in the small bathroom and a large walk in closet. The furniture is wood - desk, chest of drawers side tables and the ceilings are high, giving an old fashioned elegance. They have luggage storage facilities, a cafe and bar downstairs. There are plenty of shops, restaurants etc within in a few minutes walk and the cable car stop is only 100m away.

Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. The bowl of fruit in the lobby and the happy hour were appreciated. Breakfast options were a bit too limlted.

We have stayed at many hotels around the world and The Cartwright was the best. The rooms were clean, service was good and location was wonderful but what makes this hotel better than the others is the friendly people working there. The people at check in where very helpful, fruit on the counter was a nice touch and the best by far was the free wine tasting every night. The wine was very good but the idea of all the tourists meeting every night in the lobby for free wine and conversation was wonderful. We will definitely stay there again and have recommended this hotel to many of our friends.

The hotel was still under remodeling although it was said to be finish in March, so it was a bit disapointing. The lady in reception wasn't much into smiling so I didn't feel very welcomed. Fortunally it was the only day she was there and the rest of the staff was very friendly and helpfull. I stayed for three nights with no inconvinients. The room was a bit smaller than expected but ok. The free wifi worked very well and that is an important matter to me. The location is excellent. The hotel should have a small room with tables to have a morning coffe with some cakes.

Staying at this hotel was actually kind of fun, even though it was being remodelled. I felt safe and welcome, and the room was cosy and the bed was great after wandering around the city all day. The tub was really deep, and made of ceramic not plastic or metal so it stayed hot for soaking. I have never had a closet as big as the one in my single room, it was bigger than the bathroom and it had a full sized ironing board in it. The hotel is in a good part of the city, so close to everything-- I would love to come back and stay again.
