A recommander.
My wife and I had a very nice stay of 8 nights at the London Elizabeth in September. This is an aging property, without particular frills, but it's a very good budget choice (for London prices anyway). The hotel is around the corner from the Lancaster Gate tube stop and an easy walk to Paddington Station. The street it's on is busy and the extremely busy road along the top of Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens is just around the corner, so do yourself a favor as we did and request a room in the back. The walls are a bit thin regardless, but we never had any particular problem with sound. Our room was small, but not tiny. Everything was clean, although some of the decor was a bit worn. The room had a safe, a trouser press, a television (only 4 channels, but we didn't vacation in London to watch TV), and plentiful hot water (if anything the pressure was too high) at all times of day. The bathroom was very clean, and my only issue was with the shower, which was high and a bit difficult to clamber into, and then so slim that it was difficult to stay out of the shower curtain while showering. The continental breakfast was adequate: four kinds of pastry, cereals, two juices, toast, tea, coffee, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and mixed cut fruit. By the end of eight days, a little variation would have been welcome, as would a bit of cheese, but everything was always fresh and service was good. A full breakfast was available for 6 pounds more. We didn't eat in the restaurant otherwise. We got good help with restaurant recommendations from the concierge, and there are plenty of options in the neighborhood, particularly if you like Middle Eastern and Asian food. Several decent pubs were an easy walk away. Don't be mistaken: this isn't the Ritz, but they took good care of us and we never had an issue in eight days that required remediation. This is a solid budget option in a good location in a city of expensive hotels. I would stay again.
Loved the cozy bar...since it was raining could not enjoy the meals on the terrace. Fantastic location!
This is a pretty good hotel if you want a location beside Hyde Park and a tube station and you're not too fussy about having brand new decor and furniture. Main thing for me is, the sheets and towels were clean. Polite and helpful staff too. Big plus points for: free wifi, bath, breakfast included in what was a pretty good price for what seemed to be a fairly busy night in London's hotels. Big minus for: no tea/coffee-making in the room. Also minus for: tired building/decor, very cheap iron & ironing board.
Nice bed, good room and great staff!. All I would like to change the quilts on beds, the color of them will think this is dirty but this is not. I will stay there next time in London.
Nice hotel, great location, friendly staff. Nothing is too much trouble.
Very noisy. Walls very thin can hear the doors banging and traffic outside. Shower dirty with mould. Lift not working. Lace curtain dirty. Dining area not big enough to cope with the amount of guests.
The best located hotel I've ever stayed in in London, but the continental breakfast was poor and the restaurant was not big enough for breakfast.
Great location for central/western London. Only drawback is that hotel front is on very busy/noisy road from early until very late. Will return - though
Nice room but was a little loud to the street, window open wasn't possible
We stayed at the London Elizabeth Hotel for 5 nights in March 08. Negatives: the hotel is right next to a main road, the majority of rooms face it & are therefore noisy all night. Also, it is the first hotel we have stayed in without a kettle in the room. Not a major thing you might think, but we found it annoying & inconvenient. You can buy drinks from room service/the bar/the restaurant, but expecting people to pay for extras like this is poor. Also our shower hadn’t any hot water. We were offered option of showering in someone else’s room once they’d left & the room had been cleaned, but we insisted they moved us to another room. The second room was better (i.e. there was a bath & shower, both with hot water) but it was in the smoking section & stank of cigarette smoke seeping in under the door from nearby rooms. Also, tired décor overall & very average continental breakfast. Positives: Friendly reception service, clean room & excellent location right next to Hyde Park & tube.
Friendly staff; excellent breakfast; free internet/printing access; 2 minute walk from Lancaster Gate station (Central line); pleasant walk through Hyde Park to South Kensington (20-25 minutes)
Great location. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast good. Rooms a little old but more than adequate and plenty of room compared to other hotels. Would recommend to others.
This is one of my favourite London hotels. My 'single' room was a spacious double room with bath/shower. The European breakfast offers a good choice and there is free use of a computer. The hotel is literally two minutes walk from Lancaster Gate station on the Central line and a similar distance from Hyde Park.
Hotel decor is a bit dated but the staff were friendly and the included breakfast very good.
Fine hotel for a good price, including breakfast, free internet access and a free morning newspaper. Two points: the hotel is quite warm, but I could control the heating in my room, which helped a lot. The traffic noise is terrible. In my room it didnot make much difference whether the window was opened or closed. Some colleagues in other rooms had less problems with it.
Restaurant very nice and tastefully decorated. Lobby with lit fireplace very cosy and welcoming. Bedroom small but well appointed and very tastefully decorated. Bed however disappointingly small not suitable for 2 persons. Elevator minute(max. 2 persons or 1 with suitcase) but acceptable.
Hotel is warm and cosy. Very friendly and helpful staff. Less than 10 min walk to Paddington Station. Great location for catching the Heathrow express in the morning. 2 min walk to Lancaster Gate underground station. 15 min walk to Marble Arch & Oxford Street . Front rooms can be noisy due to traffic. Our twin bedroom was spacious enough. Our ceiling fan was noisy but other than that its was good value for money.
The Hotel would improve when the renovations are completed. I think that the Hotel would have been brilliant in its "hey day".
Stayed here whilst on a conference in London. Very short walk to Paddington train station and underground, therefore easy to get around and to and from Heathrow. Free internet and friendly service. Basic breakfast. Highly recommended
