"This was an excellent hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfasts was buffet style and very good with lots of choice. The rooms were large, well furnished, comfortable and quiet (not always so in Spain). It has a very central and convenient location with English spoken if you need it. Lots of visitor information leaflets on display. Centrally locates, in the area called "Seafood BAnk", a leisure area par excellence and only 10 minutes from the beach.
The building occupies the spot where formerly stood a women´s prison, until its clousure and demolition in 1970´s. The square itself is still known as "Prison Square". (PLaza de la Cärcel).
In 1983 this old prision was pulled down to build "LOS CANTAROS HOTEL". LOs Cántaros means earthenware and the Hotel takes its name from earthenware jugs dating back to XVII century, found in the subsoil of the old prision; today, these jugs are displayed in the Town Museum and some are on display in the hotel reception.
Today the "Prision Square" has been preserved and one of its former numerous fountains built in 1.839 can still be viewed by the visitor. It has four taps constructed with TArifa slads, Algecras Bluestone, bricks of SEville and calcareous sand from the nearby San Cristóbal mountains.
The hotel has 39 double rooms, all with baths, TV, telephone, minibar, air conditioning, heating, and room service . We have an Andalusian style bar-café, with additional lounge, laundry service, a little conference room which can hold 15 people.
Quiet and familiar atmosphere and a careful and personal service. |
