fine 3 night stay over Halloween 2011. At far end of royal mile and a block off so pretty quiet with a good walk into new town. Staff particularly friendly and helpful. king bed was two singles together and no clock in room.
The library of the hotel is excellent which has made it different from many others. Its location is very conveient and the restaurant is very good. The setback is the swimming pool is managed in a pool manner.
Very good Hotel.Car parking at £20 per night I think was very unreasonable and due to this I probably won't stay here on my next visit, apart from that we enjoyed our stay.
An efficiently run hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. Well positioned with only a short stroll to the Royal Mile, yet in a quiet area. Did not try the food as there is an abundance of 'chain' and local restaurants throughout the city.
In need of update. Wouldn't stay there again.
We loved this hotel. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. Although the hotel is not located in the very centre of the city amongst the shops, restaurants etc., all were a short stroll away. We would certainly stay here again.
A great hotel, well placed for the royal mile, though it is at the bottom, and not the top of it! Close to Holyrood Palace, and just about everything. Staff were friendly, facilities good, breakfast was great. Would definitely stay there again - good for a long weekend.
Brilliant breakfast choice, staff helpful and good facilities. Really enjoyed my short stay there. Would definitely stay there again - but be great if they got new pillows - there were terrible, very lumpy and woke with a sore neck!! Otherwise great ;)
Great Hotel! the only slight problem is that is practically at the ned of the royal Mile and 15 minutes walk (uphill) to the main attractions. Apart from that, great swimming pool, steam room and sauna free of charge, excellent restaurant, polite and efficient service
Well-priced, good-quality hotel beside Holyrood and the Parliament buildings.
Excellent location, friendly and pleasant service, good food.
Excellent hotel although it is about a 10 minute walk from the sites of the old town (except Holyrood Palace of course). A few minor things; The buffet breakfast is table waited for the hot food meaning that staff are busy taking orders and bringing out food. The quality of the food is great but this means tables are cleared very slowly as staff are doing other things and oftens means that you have to wait up to 15 minutes for a seat even though there are plenty of tables available, just not cleared. The TV in the room is on the floor to one side of the bed so good luck watching it if two people are sharing a bed. No free Wi-fi although you can go to the pub next door and use their free wi-fi. But for £80 a night over Easter including breakfast I still think this hotel is a bargain and recommend it to those that dont mind a short walk.
The hotel is really close to Arthur's seat, so very close to the edge of the city, but still only a few minutes (uphill) walk to where all the action is - a perfect location for us. Would definitely stay there again.
A modern hotel offering all that you would expect from its 4* status.
An excellent hotel in a peaceful and beautiful location, Hotel staff were welcoming and most helpful. The food was superb-the best venison and best kippers we have ever tasted.
Having stayed at the Mcdonald Holyrood in Edinburgh for the last three years, I would highly recommend it to anybody. It is in a great location at the bottom of the royal mile in the old town. The facilities, including the pool and spa, restaurant and bar are superb. Finally, the service is second-to-none.
The friendly and helpful staff in all departments of the hotel made this a very pleasurable stay. the room was excellent. The breakfast choice was extensive and all cooked meals were served fresh and piping hot. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
We were very impressed by the size and furnishings of the rooms. We did feel the price of the carparking was a little steep. Breakfast was good.
Everything was 100% my only comment would be if your reception and bar area could be made a little bigger with more seating.
breakfast to 11am was very comfortalble - however the rooms are over priced
