A short distance out of the city, The Mansion Hotel & Spa is a perfect getaway with some interesting attractions on its door step. Very much designed for the overnighter (e.g. there's no drawer space) the rooms are well enough appointed but small. Whilst rooms have modern touches they do feel a little worn. Sadly didn't get to make use of the spa. I did call and leave a message in the morning but did not receive a reply. By the time we arrived mid-afternoon no treatments were available and when I mentioned that I had called but no-one responded no apology or explanation was forthcoming. The pool area was a great spot to unwind. We did have it to ourselves, so if more than ten couples were present I can imagine it would get cosy. The absolute highlight of the stay was the meal at Joseph's. Simply stunning! One of the best meals I have had the pleasure of eating. In all, a great occasional overnighter in a great location but the rooms could do with a freshen up.
After spending the long weekend at the Mansion, we left with mixed feelings. Hotel and grounds are beautiful, food in Joseph's was outstanding for both dinner and breakfast and then we come to the service... For what is supposed to be a 5 Star hotel, we were left wandering. Drinks missing from orders, incorrect orders being bought out, no guide to the facilities available due to 'reprinting', heating not working in the room & being told to just put on the blanket... At the end of the day it is a gorgeous hotel; did we get value for money, I would say no. They were mortified about the heating problem and have said they will send out a gift certificate. I may look at using the certificate in another of their hotels though...
we were well looked after. we have a baby and they provided all we could need to ensure she was comfortable. Room was a little small but other than that it was fine.
Be extremely careful and put up the do not disturb sign when you sleep - we had cleaners waking us before 9 o'clock on a sat and sun morning!!!!!!!!!!
A warm Spa would have been good.
Room service forgot our order. After 1 1/2 hour wait rang them & they supplied a meal within 1/2 an hour, however the meal provided was different to what was ordered. We had a 4am start next morning and other guests in hotel made continuous loud noise all through night. Hotel reception did not charge for evening meal when advised of wrong meal and lengthy delay. They stated they would act upon complaint of noise but all a bit too late. It felt like we as guests were neglected and suffered due to 2 wedding receptions and their guests were being overly indulged.
I LOVE the location of the place, it's a nice place to get away for a 1-2 night stay. I intend to return again & hopefully for a longer stay!!
Werribee Park is an excellent location to relax and escape the hustle & bustle of Melbourne. An easy 30-40 minute drive from the city, the park boasts a beautiful big garden with unique sculptures dotted through grassy knolls & ancient trees. The Italianate mansion from 1873 is rich with dark and wonderful history. It is hard to believe that a homestead such as this exists so close to Melbourne! The Shadowfax winery is right next door and the Open Range Zoo a short walk away. A highlight was the secluded fruit orchard on the banks of the Werribee River and a sculpture walk overlooking the African animals wandering about on the flood plains below. The Sofitel Mansion & Spa is smack bang in the middle of all this! The service is 5 star, but not contrived and the rooms decorated with contemporary yet comfortable bedding and decor. I loved it and will definitely be back.
A unique hotel, tastfully furnished, that was a pleasure to stay at. Staff were great, friendly, efficient and professional. Rooms were a little on the small side but limited space was well utilised. The restaurent 'Josephs' is terrific, enticing menu, delicous food and once again great service.
Staff went beyond their duties to ensure that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
I have stayed in Hotels around Australia and the world and thought that this hotel was extremely overpriced for the room, the evening meal and the drinks.
Very good luxury hotel, with a very good restaurant and breakfast. The grounds are a must when you are there!
Great service and friendly staff.
although lovely setting, room cramped, food expensive, wine very average,
Beautiful location, great food and good facilities. A nice boutique hotel for a romantic weekend away.
ambience and atmosphere+++++ only negative was noisy water pipes
Beautiful! Large grounds to walk on, very quiet and relaxing, plenty of history. The sculpture walk and the riviera is just gorgeous.
Staff were outstanding
A wonderful hotel set in the most beautiful surroundings. The food served in Joseph's restaurant is five star and the best I've had in Australia. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning. The grounds are a pleasure to explore, as too is the Manor. Shadowfax Winery, which is within walking distance, is also well worth a visit.
The hotel is situated in a beautiful garden setting surrounded by expansive grounds, a winery, rose garden and adjacent to the marvellous Werribee open range zoo. The food and service at Joseph's Restaurant (although expensive) is excellent including the combined a la carte/buffet breakfast. The excellent pool/spa complex is also first rate. The room design was not entirely to our liking especially the split level bathroom/bedroom area but we are seniors and more prone to having falls, etc. The staff we encountered were exceptionally polite, welcoming and helpful.
