location superb for shops and merchant city bars and night life. a bit noisy with a night club across the road
We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel after reading some other reviews. The rooms were lovely and the beds very comfortable. The bathroom in the room we were in could do to be refurbished but it was clean. Fantastic location for a night out or shopping trip. It was a little noisy at night but you can only expect that in the centre of Glasgow on a Saturday night. Breakfast was included in the price - very good! We would definitely stay there again. Great price and better than a [other hotel]!

A very well located hotel, right in the heart of merchant city, with great access to the bus & both train stations, pubs, clubs & shops. Staff are very friendly and the rooms are cosy. There were hairs lying around and the windows in our room didn’t shut right meaning quite a noisy night (from the pub down from the hotel) but overall a very pleasant hotel that I'd recommend to others and definitely stay in again.
Next to George Square - great location, particularly for the Glasgow Marathon. Friendly staff. Next to bars - noisy at night.
TERRIFIC LOCATION BUT SLIGHTY DEAR. FABULOUS BREAKFAST, EVEN HAVING THREE DIFFERENT WAYS TO COOK MY SMOKED HADDOCK & EGG. TV OK BUT WOULD EXPECT A LARGER ONE ESPECIALLY WITH A CONTROL. HOWEVER, OBTAINING A SPECIAL PRICE OF £3 WITH NHC OVERNIGHT WAS A REAL BONUS.
The location was good, in the city centre. But unfortunately, most of the rooms were facing a pub, whose patrons were extremely noisy - thus causing me not to get any sleep until after 4.00am. I managed to change my room the next day but that room was not cleaned properly from the last guest's stay and the floor was dusty with dirt and crumbs of food. Coffee/tea sachets were not replenished for my stay on the second night. Breakfast was good, reception was good and helpful.
The best feature of the Merchant Lodge is its location - very easy to access from the central train station and Buchanan bus station. Facilities are spartan - no carpet in the room in which I stayed. Two light bulbs were not working in my room, suggesting that maintainence/cleaners are a little slack. The grout work around the shower was heavily discoloured due to mildew. And wads of chewing gum were evident on the wooden floor - needs a thorough clean to remove same. Breakfast was smart and efficient, fresh fruit was a welcomed feature in the reception area. The installation of some free WIFI hotspots would make the world of difference! You get what you pay for here - if your time in Glasgow is to be spent out of the hotel - then this is the place to stay. Oh yeah - televisions with remote controls would be a great innovation for this establishment. Climbing out of bed to change chanels on the telly brought back memories of the late 1970's - the olden days as my kids phrased it!
Simple but well located and a great price
Good value for money, pleasant room and friendly staff.
