For almost four hundred years, the Mercure Whately Hall Hotel has charmed guests with its garden views and secret staircases. The cast of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice got into character quite easily during their stay at Whately Hall whilst filming the television series in the area. Hidden staircases, priest holes and the resident ghost of father Bernard are famously part of the charm of this 17th century treasure. We have 69 bedrooms including 8 suites, all refurbished to executive standard. Banbury is an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds. Stratford-upon-Avon is only a short drive away – as are Oxford, Warwick Castle, Coventry Cathedral, and Sulgrave Manor, the ancestral home of George Washington. Motor enthusiasts can visit the Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon.

Very welcoming & efficient. Staff helpful and attentive; relaxing atmosphere. Disappointing choice of beer in bar - no cask ale was a significant downside
The staff were lovely, the hotel was clean, and the bed very comfortable. The furnishings and fittings are not the most modern, but everything works and does what it's supposed to do. My main quibbles were that there were no tea and coffee making facilities in the room and no hairdryer (there was an iron and ironing board though), and the alarm call I requested never came through. On the plus side, they let me leave my car in their carpark long after I'd checked out, and the staff were very friendly and obliging. So, not the best hotel in the world, but far from the worst; and for less than £50/night, one can hardly complain about a few little imperfections.
Friendly service, great for walking access to the town with lots of parking out front. Beautiful grounds, well kept.
We stayed in a junior suite which was nicely decorated and clean. I would not have wanted to pay over £100 for this room though as there was no air-conditioning, bathrobes, separate shower and the quilt on the bed was far too heavy. The room was generally clean but the glasses were dirty, probably due to the odd shape of them! The hotel itself is very tired in the public areas and once you start looking around you can see evidence of "making do" by a handyman everywhere. The plus is the location, right in the town centre. The carpark is a bit awkward but ample parking is available.
