Warm welcome and nice comfortable place to stay. The updating to the internal decoration was a pleasant surprise. Not the most central as a car was needed but as Invercargill is spread out (some of the longest straight streets I have seen) so no place is really central. This motel was very quiet.
Our two nights were at the end of a visit to Stewart Island. We had a rental car, as self-drive is necessary for the Monarch which is on the edge of the city. Owner Karl could not have been more helpful. Knowing we were from earthquake-stricken Christchurch, he offered us a therapeutic spa at no extra cost. Our one-bedroom unit was everything we needed. Very clean and everything worked (unlike our cottage on the Island). No nonsense, no hidden costs. Nice hosts, nice place.

Having stayed in many many motels over the South Island, I'd honestly put Monarch at the fore. Little touches such as English bone china mugs, English crockery (not cheap made in China as is so typical) and quality, contemporary crystal wine glasses. Ground coffee replaced in coffee filter daily - this rates better than $170 per night Merivale stays I've had. Such nice people, and discount for two nights
We stayed in a two bedroomed unit and booked a double unit for friends. Both units were spacious and clean with good facilities for an overnight or longer stay. Booking with you made it very affordable. Highly recommended.
