We are very happy with our friends recommendation to stay at this Hotel. We enjoyed our 5 nitght stay.. It is very conveniently located. Subway station was nearby and it is very convenient to walk to all the places of interest including the Imperial Palace and the Castle. It is also a nice stroll to Gion and all the shopping arcades and restaurants. The only shortcoming is that the room is very small and the smell of smoking was not very pleasant. Our fault for not asking for a non smoking room.

This hotel was amazing. Less then a block away from a subway station and 10 minutes from the Kyoto Station via subway this hotel is situated perfectly if want to walk and visit shrines, temples, shops, or find a bite to eat. The room itself was very spacious, clean, and included everything we needed for our stay. I would return to the Hotel Monterey Kyoto in a heartbeat.
Beautiful hotel and friendly staff. Everything was new and they have 2 Renoir paintings in the lobby, fantastic not!
The hotel is located very close to a subway exit and so was very convenient. Within 5 mins walking distance were various bus stops from which major tourist sites could be reached. Our room was immaculately cleaned every day but the reception staff, though helpful, lacked local knowledge. They informed us that no prior booking was necessary to visit the Kyoto Imperial Palace (which was not the case). I had booked our room without breakfast and so we tried quaint little cafes nearby. These were usually run by a husband/wife team and was good value for money although the portions were not large. Did not eat at hotel restaurants, so cannot comment. Wired internet in the room was pretty fast but bring your own router if everyone needs to go online at the same time.
Great hotel and only a couple of minutes walk to the nearest subway station. Very modern and clean - would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone.
Excellent immaculate hotel in a convenient position for city activities and handy for subways. Rooms are quite small but adequate and facilities are near new. Friendly helpful staff. Hotel seemed to be favoured by Japanese nationals during our stay, maybe due to Golden Week, so was very quiet despite being busy, and thoroughly enjoyable. Our second stay at this hotel in 5 years and would recommend it highly.
THis was a fantastic place to stay. very clean, the rooms were beautiful and the service was very friendly. great walking location to the main part of kyoto with easy access to bus/subway and shopping malls.
Very nice location and facility. I hope that there will be more discount for Spa facility for hotel guests.
Nice hotel great location, friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are small (as are most in Japan), bar service was very slow.
The hotel is very new and great environment .
Great hotel. Quirky design, brilliant location and helpful staff. The price we got was fantastic. The private Onsen was beautiful althogh a little pricey (not included in your accomodation charges.) Will definitely stay there again.
Service by far not as friendly as in the Monterey Hotel Tokyo and certainly well below Japanese standards in general. One example to illustrate my point: While staying at the Monterey Kyoto, I made a booking with a hotel in Osaka via HotelClub on my laptop and then asked at reception whether they could please print out the voucher for me (from a flash drive), even offering to pay for this service. Whereas this had been not too much to ask for in Tokyo, the request was refused in Kyoto without offering any alternatives. It was only through further enquiries that I found out that there was a coin-operated PC (hidden in a corner in the lobby) with a printer attached that I could use. Not very helpful.
Although the room was small (it is Japan), everything about the hotel was first class.
Excellent location, with access to two subway stations and within easy walking distance to Nijo Castle, Kyoto Imperial Palace, National Garden and surrounding museums, art galleries and temples. The hotel supplies a full range of toileteries, except for body lotion so remember to bring your own. And you may need to request a softer pillow if you are unaccustomed resting your head on a bean bag. The staff are very helpful and the service is excellent. In-room internet access. Recommend this hotel for tourists and business people.
Fantastic location, rooms tastefully decorated and facilities new and clean. Would definitely stay there again.
clean, tidy, central, provides all the amentities required in its typical compact japanese form, staff were knowledgable and helpful, no complaints from 1 night 2 days stay, all was perfectly enjoyable
no complaints whatsoever. a perfect stay in a great location.
Fancy lobby and lift area. Rooms are small (had superior double on 9th floor), but of good standard. Be sure to specify non-smoking if that's what you prefer. Location is great in the centre of Kyoto, close to buses and underground
Nice hotel but if you are in the least bit worried about their fire escape policy I would worry. We were woken by the fire alarm at 2 in the morning a recorded voice saying there is a fire please evacuate. Non of the fire doors would open and there was a long queue for the lift as people battled to get themselves and their suitcases down the 9 floors. Downstairs bemused staff who couldnt speak english did not attempt to direct people or anything. As it turned out it was a false alarmed, but it made us think if it was real fire what chance would we have had to get out!!!!! Apart from that close to all the sights and comfortable beds. Rooms were small but that is the norm in Japan. Price did not include breakfast but there are lots of very good cafes close to the hotel.
