"I can't say enough good things about Monterey. It is not inexpensive but it is good value, the rooms are comfortable and are of average size for a western style hotel. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful, the concierge staff in particular will go out of their way to help. The hotel is well situated but depending on the purpose of your stay you may find another location more convenient. In any case the subway and buses are a short walk, and for those with a little time up their sleeves a 2-3 hour walk could take in a number of major central Kyoto sites. Good food is never far away in Kyoto but the immediate area around the hotel is not as rich for choice as the area to the south east. However a 10-15 minute walking radius gives you more options than you could possibly try, though be prepared to walk a little further for a really good kaiseki meal or one of the more unusual specialty restaurants." - Anonymous

"A great hotel dead-center in downtown Kyoto. Easy access to all local mass transit lines, the Teramachi shopping district, and a variety of nearby amenities (to include a FedEx business center for the busy traveler). Wonderful staff and beautiful rooms that are reasonably priced. I was in residence here for several weeks while moving to Kyoto, and realized I had chosen an ideal location quite by accident.
