Good value for money, the room had everything you would need for a short weekend break. Parts of the hotel need a bit of TLC and the decor is a bit dated, the room itself was comfortable. For the price, no complaints.
Staff were polite&friendly but hotel is in bad need of a refurb...the rooms are clean but desperately need updating..however good location for birmingham and free parking.
This hotel has improved greatly in the year since I last stayed there, with redecorated foyer and bar. The renovation will in time extend to all the rooms. Also the standard of cleanliness has improved markedly - I now rate it 'average' but before it would have been 'bad'. It clearly was once a good hotel but the tide of fashion has moved into central Birmingham leaving the Norfolk and other hotels along Hagley Road behind. It offers good value, a filling full English breakfast, friendly service, and a bus stop right out the front for direct access to city centre locations. And the new owners are committed to raising standards.
On the positive side, renovated rooms are clean and ok, though really cold now as the heating is too small for a double room, and its sometimes hard to get hot water from the shower. Very helpful staff, and close to the busstops. However, if you are unlucky to get a room that hasnt been renovated. Its a horrible first experience n you will have to ask to change your room. But whichever you eventually stay in u'll have to make do with the faults (TV remote, no intercom, heating....) All put together, u pay for what you get. Nice and cheap. Not as bad as i'd read previous reviews and has the potential to improve after renovations are complete..
Hotel could do with some renovation. Reception and lobby have been upgraded, bedrooms and bathrooms need the same attention as the reception area. I understand this will happen but progress seems slow. Very poor shower water pressure and difficult to adjust it. Ok for the price but if you are expecting more this is not the hotel for you
The Norfolk Hotel is a work in progress as they are still carrying out buliding work etc. The room was a good size. Did not like 2 single beds joined together to make a double. The reception staff were a bit slow. But for the price the Norfolk hotel is great value for money. I looked at a number of reviews before we stay at the Norfolk Hotel and none of them were good. I am pleased to say that the facilities have improved. But there is still a long way for them to go before it up to standard. The new feel and look of the hotel is impressive and once they have completed the renovation I am sure that it will be a nice place to stay. I am sure that I would stay there again.
The first room I was offered: the bed sank in the middle, so I slept accross at the other end of the bed. I found out the following morning that the batten underneath was broken. However, the second one was much better and I have no complaints, except that the toilet/bathroom wall needed to be washed down a occassionally to remove body fluid marks.
Undergoing renovation, but that didn't cause a problem. The real disappointment was that my "renovated" room (new bathroom suite) still had its old wallpaper (c 1960)! And the duvet cover looked grubby (probably wasn't, just a poor choice of colour/design).
Excellent rate including cooked breakfast. Room a bit musty but clean-but pillows flat and quite a little small!!!! On the night bus route to City so excellent location. And they let us park there in the day we checked out so we could get the bus into the City.
Good hotel a 20min walk to centre of city. Car park available for free. We would stay again.
A good hotel for a budget traveller who wants to have a few easy days! Recommended.
nice room - clean and tidy - food good - service quick
We were glad that it was for one night only. The bed was terrible - we could feel the springs through the rather cheap and nasty matress. The quilt cover was barely big enough for the bed. The television would not work until I realised that the aerial had fallen out because the plug was no nonger holding the cable effectively. The net curtains at the window looked cheap, sagged in the middle and were too short. The reception staff were excellent but, overall, the hotel created an impression of being rather sad and in need of some refurbishment.
the hotel is clean and the breakfast was very substantial. the staff were helpful. however the heater in our room did not work properly and being as it was below freezing that night we actually shivered in our beds. reported it next morning and they said they would tell maintainance but if i had paid full price( £80 ) i would not have been content with this.
was given an upgraded room on arrival no extra charge - fanstastic value and very comfortable and clean. Enjoyed my stay.
We paid £43 for a double room with full english breakfast. Roms are small and a bit tired, however at just £43 it was an exellent price
Hotel was in a great location for central Birmingham but you needed to get a bus into the city. There is a stop right outside. The inside of the hotel and the rooms looked very tired and outside in the car park there were piles of old furniture. Breakfast was excellent
Hotel is very well situated for central Birmingham abd also competitively priced however some of the interior is a little 'well-worn' in places and the breakfast wasn't fantastic. I would have no problem with stopping here again for a stay in Birmingham
Convenient for the city centre, a good hotel with friendly staff. Rooms and hotel of a good standard.
Very good breakfast, certainly hit the spot.
