Lots of excellent features eg. good location for Darling Harbour & Pyrmont facilities & ready access to CBD via mono rail. Room airy & well designed, bed comfortable, soundproofing good. Excellent lap pool of 25 metres - remarkable for a hotel. Downside was surly & unresponsive staff (need training in eye contact for starters!) & poor access to parking. We had to park late Sat evening & cldn't use the hotel-recommended Harbourside carpark as it was full. The alternative carpark cost a mint & was not refundable by the hotel. FInding the hotel is a nightmare for non- Sydney-siders due to the complex web of local one-way streets (& for inexperienced taxi drivers). I wldn't use it again with a car.
I found our room needed a big makeover. Very tired and old. Lamp was broken and the TV was the real old style with set top box. When I tried to ring reception I was on hold for 15 minutes with the phone just ringing so I hung up. The location is good, but the rooms are very ordinary.
On first entering via level 4 (carpark level) we thought we'd entered some kind of prison encapment with all the caged courtyards- very unattractive! however the room was nice enough, view from floor 10 just a big wall, but close enough walk to Darling Harbour without the cost of the DH hotels like the novatel. Would probably shop around a bit more next time first, though if want a room just for the night is just fine.
The one bedroom apartment had all that we needed, and the bed was very comfortable. Great location. Checking out was a little cumbersome - too many people at 10.00am so that took longer than should be necessary. Some of the paintwork and the couch were a little shabby but overall it was comfortable and in the perfect spot to access Darling Harbour, and price was pretty good compared to other places nearby.
We stayed at this "serviced" apartment for three nights and yet our bed was not made up on any day! We were on the tenth floor and although there were three lifts we regularly had to wait a considerable length of time just to get up or down to the floor we wanted. It is also rather inconvenient when you have a car as there is a requirement to check in at the lobby (another queue up) with your ticket prior to leaving the car park - which is situated across the walkway in the public car parking terminal.
The Oaks Apartments are located just beding the convention centre - about 100 metres to the monorail and light rail stations. Apartments are not in brand new condition but are in good order and well equipped. Best value for parking in the area.
We found that as most of our activities were in the Sydney CBD that it was in a suitable location with good access to the monorail to go downtown and to other good locations. The room was cleaned daily and the staff was very helpful. Will be looking forward to returning next year.
pleasant place to stay, staff were very helpful
I would highly recommend this Hotel to anyone wanting to stay close to the city and Darling Harbour. It was reasonably priced, very clean and with very helpful staff.
Although we were quite busy attending seminar during our stay at Oaks the location is perfect. Only a few minutes walk to Darling Harbour & even shorter to the light rail. While inside the building itself is a pretty unusual design, no doubt because it was a warehouse in a past life, it is well kept, clean & comfortable. Enjoyed our stay & would definitely recommend especially if proximity to Darling Harbour, CBD, Convention & Entertainment Centres, Paddys Markets, Chinatown etc are important.
We had a lovely stay thank you. The kitchen was well appointed, also a clothes washer & dryer, it was all available. Location was very convenient and within easy walking distance to the city, shops and 20 minutes walk to Circular Quay. The gym and pool area was a bonus. Staff very professional, helpful and polite. We will definitely be staying at the Oaks again.
Second stay and just as great as first. Would recommend using monorail if in city or mycard for trams. Easy to get a cab at front door.
The Goldsbrough was ideal for my purpose this weekend, for the Sing Australia National Gathering at the Convention Centre, spread over three days but with the added bonus of being withing walking distance of the city and theatres. Having the light rail and the monorail stations virtually outside the door is an added bonus. I booked the Goldsbrough when a 24 hour special became available. I have stayed previously but always when there is a special rate.
Great location and very good price. Hotel was clean and comfortable. It was a bit noisy due to the heavy traffic, but that was the trade off for having views of the fabulous harbour.
I was pleasantly surprised with the Oaks. Check-in was easy with parking across the road at a reduced rate. I shared a one bedroom unit with my daughter. It was spacious, clean and very comfortable with great heating. This is an ideal location if you wish to spend time at Darling Harbour. Mono rail and light rail right at the door. I will definitely be back again, this time in summer where I can use the pool.
We enjoyed our stay, had a wonderful time. Great facilities and location, cant wait to stay again. Highly reccomended
Clean room. Good bathroom and laundry
Very nice and close to the city.
Close proximity to darling harbour and city. Clean and spacious rooms with complete kitchen and laundry. Would stay there again.
The Staff were always helpful. Facilities excellent. Weather was a bit wet (highest rainfall since 1957 :-)
