Oaks Hyde Park Plaza Sydney Guest Reviews

4 out of 5

I stay in a city hotel once a month for a girls night out and I was very pleasantly surprised with the size of the room when I checked as it was around twice the size of my last room at the Sebel in Surry Hills. This room had a kitchen and a view of the city and comfortable bed. Would be happy to stay again.

Hotel is very close to Museum station, within easy walking distance of Darling Harbour and Circular Quay. Although the decor is somewhat dated the room was very clean, the sheets crisp white cotton and the bed very comfortable. What more could you want from a budget hotel?

The hotel is on the older side, but due to its location in darlinghurst it was located directly to where i was visiting. the hotel was also a few minutes drive from friends which is why it was chosen.its also on the end of oxford st which offers ample clubs hotels and is one long st of retailstores with boutique stores running off from it on queen st and others at the top end. bondi junction is also close by. oaks also offer very good hotels. the room was well made and clean and very open with space all around. services in side were also good for the room

We will stay there again because it suits us. However, it was disconcerting to find full on 1 girl 2 guys porn in amongst the regular TV channels. We are adults we can cope but what about parents who may have a child with them and who may not be aware of the easy accessability of said porn and their child starts to surf the channels. The female in the particular piece we witnessed did not look as though she was enjoying the experience but looked in distressed - perhaps she thought that was the sexy OR was told to look that way. We are aware that this is a turn on to some people to see a female as a victim but we question the wisdom of that for younger eyes. Again would it not be better for people to pay for porn rather than have it easily available with free to air channels?

We stayed in an updated studio that was modern and clean although the floor was never cleaned in the 5 days we were there. The kitchen facilities were new. The wooden furniture was old and had seen better days. The TV was quite old and we had to get attention to it. The bed was kingsize, comfortable and looked very clean with white linen and covers. Towels were a bit thin. Sydney is expensive so I guess it was not too bad for the money. We usually stay at Rydges New World Hotel and that is very nice but more expensive.

Had a great stay, room was good, view a bit lousy on the 3rd floor as we were given a back apartment. Excellent staff on reception, looked after us extremely well.

Great location, price and helpful staff, but once again crockery and glasses too high, while saucepan, jug etc on shelves easier to reach. Okay if not 154 cm tall

Great location great accomodation, would certainly recommend the place the only downside was the price of the complementary Internet considering the poor speed, the volume limit and the fact it was not a wi fi

I stayed for a weekend with two German lady friends. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and ready to assist with all our needs in a prompt and efficient manner. The only negative was that I had booked a room with 2 single beds, but they had one double bed and a fold-up bed. My friend has a severe back problem and the bed wasn't comfortable for her, the mattress was soft and she didn't sleep well in it. The other guest was an older lady, so she used the double bed. This was the only disappointing thing about our stay. Other than that, the location, facilities and service was excellent and I would stay here again and recommend it to others.

Was a very nice stay, loved the rooftop pool but beware those to chose to drive in, nowhere is it mentioned that you need to call ahead to book a car park otherwise you have to park your car over a block away.

Short walk to monorail. Beware....cab drivers reluctant to take our "short fare" to get us to our departing cruise ship, so don't rely on them! However, hotel staff did rebook a cab for us, but it didn't show. Short walk to cab stand!

Room very 'tired' needs redecorating and maintenance. Very spacious which was great. Curtains dirty, stained and falling off the rails. Under bed and behind bedside cabinets was thick with dust. Oven worked ok but no trays. Grill only got to warm but no tray. Elements were very dangerous. 3 of them only went on HIGH and the 4th only went on LOW. There were plenty of utensils, plates, cups etc. Only one saucepan and one very scratched, non-stick? (cancer causing) frypan, one colander, one glass jug, toaster and electric jug. The Reception staff were awesome. Very polite, pleasant and helpful. Our apartment overlooked Hyde Park which was a great view. It is situated near Museum Train Station and only a short walk to CBD shops.

I was so disappointed to find that this hotel had barely changed since I stayed there in 1982 as a 12 year old. The rooms were ok and the studio did not look anything like the photo or description with no sofa bed. It was a hotel room NOT a studio. The pool area was a disgrace for such a lovely location and no pool towels. My child was unwell with a tummy bug most of our stay and I had to insist on extra towels after being told that people 'sometimes steal them'. I have plenty of towels at home thanks. The location is brilliant though and this hotel seems to rest on that whilst the hotel facilities fall into disrepair.

Thought hotel in great position within walking distance of central sydney. Hotel needs upkeep with some things quite shabby, however I loved the big shower head, very comfortable bed and kitchen facilities were excellent. Was very clean and spacious, and I would certainly stay there again, and recommend The Oaks to my friends. Thankyou for a most enjoyable holiday.
