A really nice place to stay. Felt like a real Chinese place. Location very pleasant and easy to get to many attractions. would highly recommend to other expats for a one or 2 night stay.
you''ll have to climb many steps in order to get to the lodge. The lodge itself is average in every respect.
The rooms Ren (literally means "mercy"), Yi ("justice"), Yong ("bravery") and Zhu ("bamboo"), etc. are uniquely decorated to offer you a pleasant and comfortable stay.
Each room has a romantic name such as Wan Xia ("afterglow"), Qing Feng ("breeze"), and Ming Yue ("clear moon"), etc. The unique design offers you a rich cultural ambience.
The rooms Wu Wei ("stillness") and Wu Yu ("in-appetence"), etc., allow you to unwind both mentally and physically after a bustle day of travel.
There are three Executive Suites, namely Shang Yi Ting (literally means "admiring justice"), Shang Shan Ting ("admiring kindness") and Xing Fu. The traditional Chinese style bedding and furniture lead you back to the bygone era of the Ming Dynasty.
I was having trouble to go to the hotel when I arrived at Suchou Bus Terminal. Taxi refused to take me there because of road works near the hotel. Finally, I managed to get a pick-up to send me to the hotel. It's was right in a small lane and the driver has to call the hotel for direction. Anyway, it's worth the trip. I would recommend friends to stay at this hotel.
Definitely enjoyed stay at this hotel. Stsff extremely helpful. Restaurant across the street, excellent. Reception area, impressive and furnishings, terrific. Put a question mark against the plumbing in the room. All positions of the mixer taps supplying the wash basin produced cold first AND THEN hot water. Perhaps I missed something!
Great location for those who wants to escape the city and are looking for something different and typical. The hotel's personnel were very friendly and helpful. If we go back to Suzhou, this would most likely be our hotel again.
For first timer, it is kind hard to find the hotel, but for foreign visitors, this hotel is ver recomended. Service is great and hotel atomospher is like Qing Dynasty-kind. Funitures, all hotel settings were look-like old. Short distance to main atractions. I recomend to friends to stay this hotel.
We really enjoyed staying in this old style hotel. Excellent location, and hopefully the road works on the laneway leading to the hotel will be finished soon! Very friendly staff, and I received a response to our questionnaire the next day, with comments appropriate to our requests. We will certainly stay again next time in Suzhou.
A wonderfully central location in the heart of the Houton area. The cultural hotel experience is much better than that provided by an ordinary hotel. The food is now much better and there is no sewage smell in the newer development. A great place to stay. Can't beat being on the canal.
A wonderful experience to stay in such a venerable lodge. Fantastic if you like out-of-the-way places away from your typical 4-star 'Western' hotels. The taxi driver from Suzhou Railway Station had difficulty finding Ping Jiang Lodge and would not drive to the front door as it's about 100 metres down a very narrow lane off of a main street. For such a beautiful hotel, the breakfast facility across the lane is cold and unwelcoming by comparison -- also, some cereals and yoghurt would have been nice. The waiting staff were delightful, however. The little gardens and courtyards within the hotel are quaint delightful features. One could easily spend an hour or more just taking interesting photos. The hotel staff was friendly and most helpful. One person even carried my backpack up to the main street and got a taxi for us back to the train station and would not accept a tip!
very good combination of old style and modern conveniences
The hotel reception staff were determined to speak English , and were always very helpful. Food at the evening restaurant was excellent. Much more character and so much cheaper than the standard sort of hotel.Very quiet. Less positive comments: Breakfast left a lot to be desired. The drains smelt form time to time. Directions of how to get to the hotel would have been a help as it is a bit complicated as taxis will not go down the road!
Our stay at the Lodge was one of the most memorable events of our 6 months in China. It was lovely, charming, comfortable, we were well cared for by the managment and the staff, and all in all, a lovely time. I highly recommend it!
I really loved the hotel, very friendly people too One very small remark, I had some trouble finding the hotel at first and the taxi driver did not know it either
