Not a bad place to stay. Essentially a motel renovated with some upscale decorations and flair. Room was small, functional and clean (except the ac air filter). Restuarant was ok, they swept the floor around me during breakfast. Upscale menu was ok but limited. Valets were good. Deskstaff acceptable. They don't tell you on the website but valet parking is mandatory and $22 a day as of Nov 2011. Great location if you want to walk to Little Italy or even the bay/Spanish Landing. To far to walk to Gaslamp through downtown and bums sleeping on sidewalk.
only complaint is they double charged me for parking but great value for the location

the location was perfect - close to fun stores and delis in the center of Little Italy.
I had a very good time at the hotel. It was a little loud on Sat. night. The Glass Door has a great view of the harbor. The prices were on the high side but the food was terrific. I would diffidently stay there again.
This was my second time staying at the Porto Vista. It's a cute, little hotel in Little Italy and is a pretty good deal considering the price and location. (Close to freeways/trolley/airport and in a walking neighborhood with plenty of dining, shopping, entertainment options.) Rooms are small, but clean. Comfy beds. TV was a little old and janky, as were the shower and toilet. And $22 for daily parking is quite steep. Otherwise, it's a nice place and I would recommend to other travelers on a budget.
I felt very happy to have stayed in this hotel for my next trip might visit again very comfortable place ill recomended.
This hotel is just a block from Little Italy where there are some of the best Italian restaurants I've been in in a long time. Just a few blocks away is the water front. The San Diego Maritime Museum is there and there are 7 ships you can visit for $14. At the hotel, the service was good and all personnel were courteous. The only negative is not advertised anywhere I looked. Parking is $22.00 per DAY! in their underground lot. You can park on the street for free, IF you can find a single empty space, which I did not see in the 4 days we spent there. So, you are basically stuck paying them their outrageous parking fees. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable stay.
Clean , friendly staff , great location.... I loved it!
We planned our trip for San Diego so we could visit Sea World and the USS Midway. We recently purchased beach cruisers so we got this hotel based on its location. It was great! We were able to ride our bikes to the Midway the day we arrived. The next day we stopped at Old Town and had a meal before we headed to Sea World. I loved how everything was minutes away from this hotel. When we returned from Sea World we rode our bikes to a restaurant in Little Italy which was walking distance from the hotel. The last day we were in San Diego we rode our bikes to Gaslamp District. As for the room, it was nice but a little small compared to other hotels. We were hardly in the room so it didn't really matter to us. Overall this trip was well planned and we got to see and do a lot!
The staff was excellent. Location (near Little Italy & downtown trolly) was very good. The rooms were clean, updated and comfortable. The bar was very nice & friendly too (Happy Hour starts at noon). The walls were a little thin (we paid $20 extra for the larger room, so I think we had a better room location) but we didn't hear any noise that kept us up. The room was a bit expensive and valet parking was $18/night (we could not find street parking)
This hotel is central to a lot of things like the gaslamp area and easy access to the 5 freeway so you can get anywhere quickly. It is a pretty nice place with large rooms (but don't expect the Ritz) and the hotel management was very helpful. Our one complaint was with the housekeeping crew. They would either come super late in the day or not come at all, leaving our room in need of some TLC after a few days. Otherwise, the price and location can't be beat.
it was a nice hotel bc it was near the bars but the quality not so much but hey i cant complain the view from the roof top was nice
Our first room was very small, but realised we had booked cozy, upon complaint we received an upgrade to a larger room which was much nicer. Both rooms were very clean, first room however smelt very musty.
The reception took about 30mins to trace my booking and despite asking never mentioned about free breakfast coupon, for which i had to spend $28 non refundable. otherwise decent room but quite a walking distance from downtown. Also i should mention we experienced two small earthquake tremors in three days.the local people are used to these tremors.
