Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely old building and lovely atmosphere. Room not very big but we only had overnight luggage so not a problem, but had all usual amenities. Very quiet the night we stayed.
This beautifully restored historic hotel is a pleasure to visit. It's like stepping back in time as you enter the foyer, and walk through the lounge with open fire, soft light, leather coaches. Up the spiral staircase and onto a balcony off which your charming room awaits. I highly recommend and will return.

This hotel gives great personalised service and it is a welcome change from some of the "faceless" hotels that are around. It has also utilized its history in its decor and publicity materials extremely well and one feels that one has stepped back in time to a place where elegance and service are the trademarks! A warm, welcoming hotel that epitomizes good hospitality.
A very enjoyable stay, the staff were very attentive and sociable the best I've come across in years.
Beautiful old colonial-era hotel, a delight to visit. A good deal on what is normally high end accommodation with friendly-but-formal service to match. (Wd have stayed last year but no twin rooms).
overall very good, however the be careful when looking at the room as it is very very small with stuff like tv put in a rediculous location and squeeky floorboards and paperthin walls. service and presentation of foyer etc was awesome tho
Interesting old Building. However the place looks quite run down and therefore in my opinion the room rates are too high compared with other accomodation available in Rotorua.Entertainment and dinner at the resturant on Saturday was excellent.
We stayed in an apartment which was very spacious, however, the double bed should have been thrown out years ago. It sagged in the middle, was lumpy and didn't make for a good night's sleep. In fact it was the worst bed we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in hundreds. The bedhead wasn't attached to the bed and knocked against the wall every time we moved.
Beautiful. Even in our very reasonably priced small room($89) we had a chandelier to gaze at. Tiled bathroom. Clean and warm. Helpful staff. Great location.
Wonderful Building with wonderful staff. From arrival to departure the staff always made you feel very welcome . Keep up this wonderful service and keep that friendly warm welcome and your 5th Star should not be far away.I will return to stay again I'm sure .Many Thanks for a great warm friendly weekend with service to match.
we expected grand/old. really it's just old. our room was over the kitchen, very noisy till late & started very early in morning. could only access pools thru restaurant & bar,no robes to disguise where you were going. staff informed us to change at pools before & after swim. no shower or toilet in changing room tho. wouldnt visit this hotel again as didnt think it was worth $140 per night.
A great hotel, near to everything, staff extremely helpful. The room was charming and the food in the restaurant excellent. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
This is not your normal hotel stay, this is an experience. All facilities are wonderful, right down to the most delicious pillows you will ever sleep on. The staff, I cannot begin to explain how attentive and friendly they all are, I actually thought that I had some how become royalty over night as that's jus the way I was treated. Would I stay at this hotel again, I would go out of my way to go to Rotarua to stay there, SENSATIONAL!!!!
boutique, historic, quaint. Good for location close to convention centre if you just need somewhere close (to walk to all shops, bars, restaurants)and a place for a night.
Food and reception area great! Room terrible, a scene from the 80's - get with the naughties and you would overall be a fantastic place to stay.
we had a good welcome and staff were very helpful and friendly. Very good location and beautiful building. We would highly recommend it
Lovely old house and nice to stay somewhere a bit different to the chain hotels. The only negative was thin walls that were not soundproof so we were woken by drunk neighbours at 2am. We did, however, thouroughly enjoy our stay here and would reccomend it.
We spent one night at the Princes Gate and it was a wonderful experience. The building is very beautiful and romantic. We had a soak in the hot pool which is in the courtyard off the restaurant, such a beautiful setting with the lights and planting. The only negative was the acoustics because we were near the stairs, but you have to expect that in an historic building. Thanks for the experience we will definetly be back.
The Hotel is well maintained in its traditional 19th centuary mode. Well recomended, but of course no air-conditioning.
We really enjoyed our stay in the Prince's Gate. It was a breath of fresh air in comparison to the clinical chain hotels that we had stayed in. The facilities were excellent and staff extremely friendly & courteous. Our only regret was that we were only staying one night!
