Sydneys Q Station has fast become one of the citys most successful heritage sites, combining stylish accommodation with spectacular views and a fascinating history. Preserved within 30 acres of the Sydney Harbour National Park at North Head, Q Station occupies the site of Australias first and longest-running quarantine station, a temporary home for more than 13,000 people over 150 years of operation. Carefully restored and sympathetically adapted at a cost of more than $19 million, it now operates as a profitable tourism venture while at the same time funding the preservation of its historic buildings and artefacts. Opened for guests and day visitors in April 2008, it offers luxury accommodation, conference facilities and a popular program of tours and activities. Q Stations location is among the most dramatic in Sydney secluded in a sandy cove beside native bushland and towering cliffs, with views spanning the broadest reaches of the harbour from the city to the seaside suburb of Manly. It takes 35 minutes to reach from the city centre.

Check-in Time: 2:00 PM

Check-out Time: 11:00 AM

Getting there:
Follow the signs to Manly. Drive up Darley Road, past Manly Hosptial and through the sandstone archway. Follow this road (North Head Scenic Drive) to a roundabout and turn right at the roundabout where you will see the Entrance sign to Q Station.

Check-in Procedure:
If arriving by car please park in the car park to the right hand side of the hotel entrance. You may offload your bags at the reception entrance before proceeding to the car park. You will be driven to your room in a Q Station vehicle; due to our national park status unfortunately driving around the site in private vehicles is not permitted. The Q Station shuttle bus runs on a continuous ‘hop on, hop off’ loop around the site.

Car parking:
Complimentary Valet Parking available for guests Note: Cars will be parked in a secure location on site and not in front of the guests rooms

Child Policy:
Children using existing bedding are free of charge for accommodation. Breakfast rates will apply for children.

Q Station Retreat Manly Guest Reviews

Great resort and wonderful views. Would recommend to anyone - especially is you're interested in Australia's history.

Staying here was a great experience - wonderful location & history, and very friendly, helpful staff most of the time. Breakfast was generous, lots of newspapers provided and 2 guest lounges. However, we suffered from Sydney's humidity with no air-conditioning in our rooms and no ventilation. The ceiling fan was noisy, the shower is over the bath and difficult to access the taps. We waited 7 hours one day to have our room serviced and the maids only changed one of the wet towels.

A very nice place to stay, however the access to your car is very ordinary, most of the staff were frendily and very helpful. Great atmosphere and a lot of history.

Great location and fascinating place to stay. The rooms were comfortable but surprised to find no drawer space for clothes. Also disappointed to learn that the shuttle bus service is restricted in the afternoons (a gap of 4 hours from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm returning from Manly). Maybe this increases in the summer months but is contrary to info on the website. Overall a great stay with some fantastic views of Sydney. Staff very amenable.

This is a very unusual hotel, being in the National Trust old Quarantine Station. This means that the rooms are scattered across a large area on a steep hillside, with no car access. Parking is about 200m from reception, which can be some 100s metres from rooms, resulting in a complex and time consuming shuttle bus operation and valet parking. Not a place to arrive or leave in a hurry or in a rainstorm, as I did. Allow about 45minutes to check in or out. But it is a unique location, remote from any other facilities, with fascinating historic buildings, lovely restaurant, museum and private beach. Because the buildings are all heritage listed, the room facilities are limited. The rooms are small, no ensuite bathrooms, no in room fridge or air con. On the other hand the rooms have a lovely balcony overlooking the bush or Sydney Harbour and the beakfast is just splendid. For a Sydney hotel it is good value considering that the parking and breakfast are included in the tariff.

This is an unforgettable place to stay. Stunning views. Great location. Be prepared to walk to another block for breakfast and to hand over your car to valet parking on arrival but the historic setting, beautiful bushland and great buffet breakfast compensate. You need to book well ahead for the onsite restaurant as it is so popular. You can also book ghost tours. Kids should be OK if supervised but it has wrap-around shared timber verandahs and a national park all around so a watchful eye is needed. Kids would like the ghost tour I am guessing

This is the best location in Sydney for views, atmosphere and quiet, away from the high-rises and claustrophobia of the city. The staff cannot do enough for their guests and it is always done with a smile. If we visit Sydney again we will definitely stay at Q Station which is only half an hour from Circular Quay by ferry.

Great stay and information about what to do during stay. The room was very cold when we arrived (P1) and took quite a while to be at a comfortable temperature. I wonder if rooms could be heated slightly in line with predicted check in times?

Beautiful views of the harbour from the verandahs. An excellent special deal with comfortable bed, wine and good breakfast. Minibus transport to room from reception (cars not allowed). No fridge in the room. Communal fridge and good coffee 100 metres from room. Power points are hard to find (under the heater). Fans, no air conditioning. Private bathroom 20 steps outside the room. No shower screen (bathroom flooded). No cupboards at all. Torch provided with key.

Fantastic views over harbour. Great way to preserve history of the site. Would be desirable for family rooms to include 2 single beds for kids instead of sharing a sofa bed - but the wonderful cooked breakfast compensated for that!

We had an appalling time and ended up cancelling our 2nd nights stay. It took two hours to receieve our meal (natural oysters 1srt course, which was ordered when we arrived, and staff were very rude. We still haven't heard back from Management, who weren't working that weekend. The Restaurant wasn't the only thing that went wrong.
