Quality Hotel On Thorndon Wellington

"The hotel was a little run down looking and the staff didn't know stuff like where an internet cafe was, but the breakfast was more than adequate as far as a continental went, the shower was excellent and the bed comfortable. We loved the location and were lucky enough to get a quiet room at the back - that's worth asking for when you book. There's a bus stop right out front, every 10 min's or so into the city, which was brilliant and the wonderful gardens were just across the road. I thought it was great value for money. No good if you want to walk out and be in the middle of the 'action' though. It's just on the city fringe." - Thomas D Hill

"We found this old hotel a real safety hazard. 1. The lift doors close as you enter. 2. The hand rail on the steps as you enter through double doors on the 2nd floor wobble badly. 3. The wrong key to our room was given -had to go back down again to reception to get a different room 5. The lights over the entry and also over coffee area were not working. 7. The toilet seat was broken and wobbly. 8. I fell trying to step out of the really high bath onto the lino floor which was slippery. I fell really hard and hit my head hard on the toilet bowl and hurt my back on the bath. I was lucky not to have broken any bones. I handed in a report about my accident 9. Our tariff included free breakfast. We had paid for 3 beds but were only allowed 2 breakfasts. We paid $16 for third breakfast which consisted of cereal, toast, tea. Hugely overpriced. 10. Worst hotel by far in NZ we stayed at. 11. do not stay here - it is dangerous - old and dilapidated." - HELEN KNIGHTS

"One lift was not working. Staff member could not find out address of German Embassy or tell me how to get there. Cut off when I telephoned hotel. I arrived at breakfast and helped myself long before Waiter arrived to seat me. Fridge in room was so noisy, it kept rattling the bottles. When I turned it off I could hear fridge in adjoining room. Waiter cleaned tables listening to a walkman? Hotel was too dark when I arrived around 10pm." - Anonymous

"Very shabby, run down place to stay. We were very disappointed. There was NO guest amentities, i.e. only dispensers on the wall. We have stayed at backpackers with better guest amenities, services and facilities. We are aware we got a cheap deal, but didn't realise this would mean we would get a cheap hotel. The shower/bath was run down, we thought the elevator would get stuck going up or down. This whole place needs an overhaul. Would not recommend to anyone who has standards - pay a little bit more and stay in town. " - Anonymous
