Reopened in 1997, after a careful restoration and refurbishment programme by Raffles International, the grand historic hotel fulfils all the requirements of a modern world-class hotel with its facilities and amenities, but imparts an old-world charm through its style and decor, which is elegant yet comfortable, classic yet casual. Located in the heart of Phnom Penh, Raffles Hotel Le Royal is only 20 minutes'' drive from Pochentong International Airport and within easy access of the city''s attractions such as the Royal Palace, Central Market, Russian Market and the National Artefacts Museum. We had 2 deluxe rooms and the one occupied by our daughter was constantly cold and the hotel were unable to rectify the situation. Apart from this the staff were very friendly and helpful. We all three had stomache problems and eventually has to seek medical assistance in Siem Reap. The International Hospital advised that due to airborn pollution, "Tut tuts" should not be used by tourists whilst in Phnom Penn. Better advise on do's and don'ts by the hotel would be sensible - our onward visit to Raffles, Siem Reap (4 noghts) was totally spoilt, although it must be said that the management and staff of the hotel were simply splendid and more than helpful with our problems.
Very nice and clean, well serviced hotel. And good security. But the cost is too much. Way too much higher cost than the value you get. Food in the hotel is excellant and is worth the price. Business center is good, but the hotel's Internet and network is very poor and expensive. It's not working 90% of the time. It's not included in your regular hotel fee, and for the extra expensive price they charge, it should be working 99.9% of the time.
Raffles is wonderfully atmospheric. However, mush as I loved the old corridors, my travelling companion felt like she was back in her old convent school! The free standing bath was wonderful but the staff (in particular the night waiter at the Elephant Bar and the Night doorman) could do with a little courtesy training (or learn from the poll staff)
A top class hotel offering a comfortable stay in Phnom Penh. The room was very nicely decorated and maintained, although not as large as I might have expected for the pricing. The location is not as central as some other hotels, however transport is easy to obtain. The swimming pool area offered a little oasis in the heart of the city although is not huge. Superb cocktails in the Elephant bar! Obviously more pricey than other hotels in the area. We had a nice stay...however, I feel that we stayed in equally good surroundings with similarly excellent service in Siem Reap for a quarter of the price..with better gardens and larger rooms.
Check in and check out was VERY slow.
I found this hotel excellent during a recent trip to Cambodia. I only booked on-line 20 minutes before arriving, and despite the hotel not having been advised of my booking before my arrival, the hotel stood over the booking and were more than helpful. The front desk staff were very profesoinal and helpful, the bar is beautifully decorated with superb cocktails, and the pool is clean, quiet and a nice place to relax after a day sightseeing. In general the staff were excellent, though on occasion the bar staff were a little slow. However, Cambodia is a developing country and this is a feature of many places you will visit. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.
Wonderful way to stay in Cambodia. Very comfortable, staff are very pleasent with good mastery of English. Would definitely stay again.
Extremely lovely hotel, fabulous service and the buffet breakfast is divine. A very calm, cool and relaxed oasis in the delightful chaos of Phnom Penh
A great old hotel. Beautiful and well maintained. Standard rooms are pretty good if somewhat aged. After several visits to Phnom Penh, this is definitely the best hotel I have stayed in.
The Raffles Le Royal is easily the best hotel I've ever stayed in.
I stayed at le Royal with friends and family. Our unanimous opinion was that le Royal is one of the nicest hotels we have ever been to. It has an abundance of charm (e.g. retaining numerous "old" features like the old chequered floor tiles, light swithces, etc) and atmosphere. The size is just right (i.e. not too big), the staff lovely and helpful, hte food very nice (in particular breakfast) delicious. It also has good shops and just to crown things off the bar has a 4h happy hour!
Luxury in the midst of poverty. We enjoyed our stay. The staff was so friendly and polite. Can be recommended to anyone.
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel, all the staff were extremly friendly and helpful. There was times were it was difficult communicating in english but it always worked out. Only one comment would be about more facilities for children, apart from that we would defenitley go back and reccomnd the hotel to friends
A fantastic place to stay, the room was neat and clean and the breakfast was fabulous. You can't go wrong staying here! Highly recommended. One of the best hotels we have stayed in.
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Definately worth spending a few extra 'sheckles' to be in the older colonial wing, preferably a room with a balcony. Pack your own 'caffinated coffee' if you are the kind of person who cannot go to breakfast/see anyone without at least a cup of instant coffee- several attempts at obtaining such a standard hotel supply were futile (only decaffinated stocked by the hotel)- local staff gave excellent service with a smile. Still is oasis from the exciting city that is Phnom Penh- I have stayed here several times.
Excellent nostalgic ambience, but the service beats them all
This has to be, by far, the best hotel I have ever stayed at. We found that the hotel grounds, pool, breakfast, rooms, etc are fantastic, and the staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful. The location was good as most of the capital's sights were a short tuk-tuk ride away. Truly a five-star experience.
