The first room we were given was horrendous - inside room with small window out onto the very dirty fire escape (which you couldn't leave open as someone could just climb in); aircon unit but only operated from reception so couldn't change the temperature; very basic furnishings. Asked for a room change - one with an external window - and was given a really nice room (Room 217) that had obviously been recently refurbished. Although there were "No Smoking" signs everywhere, this is a Chinese owned hotel and people obviously just smoke in the rooms. Everything smelled of smoke. Overall, with the second room, we enjoyed our stay. Would stay again if we could get room 217 :)
this was a great central location to stay in for the u2 concerts. It was just around the corner from the free buses to the concerts and the bus stops for other inner city buses. The price was very reasonable considering all the other hotels around this part had increased their prices. It was clean and tidy and I had the best sleep I have had in a hotel room recently so the bed was comfy.I didn't. Dine in at all so cannot comment on the restaurant. While I was checking in another person was enquring about buses and if there was a fee bus.I was disappointed to see the receptionist did not know that there was a fee bus quite close. Thiswould be good info for the hotel to know. Overall I was very happy with my stay and would stay again.
Staff were very good but the hotel was very tired and dated and the room not at all welcoming. Absolutely no ambience and outdated fixings. (Things like not having a grate in the plug hole in the sink make one think that maintenance is not a priority.) The cost was $85 per night and I must say that we would never have gone for such a low price but due to a mix-up (of my own making) we had to take what we could get at short notice. Would not stay thee again.
Staff try hard to make you feel welcome.
great location close to casino. currently being refurbished.
the room needs a good clean bathroom had lots hair in it. shower head need replacing to be user freindly . out side car park needs a good clean up remove rubish
Reasonably priced hotel in central location, very near coach station. Restaurant pretty hopeless.
The biggest plus for this hotel is the free wifi connection, even if it is only available in the lobby. Unfortunately there is no bar available to have drink with your internet experience. Therefore I can only give an average away for the facilities.
A good quality hotel, nice settings and close to Auckland central.
Almost seems to be a big Chinese restaurant with a hotel attached as an afterthought. Service is not at all good either. Breakfast has to be ordered the night before, even though they have a big restaurant; I missed the deadline and was told I just needed to ring reception with 30 minutes notice, but when I did, someone else told me there was no way I could get any breakfast at all, they have only one chef and they were too busy! Also, having a detailed price list of how much every single item in the room will cost to replace if you damage it is pretty uninviting.
Very nice hotel with a very good location. We had an upgrade from the room we booked so we stayed in a apartment. It was nice, comfortable and clean. The only thing they should improve is the location of the powerpoints ...at the moment it is very difficult to shave or to cook water for making coffee
Some rooms face the street, and are a bit noisy, but we stayed in budget rooms. Maybe worth paying more for a room with aircon, but we thought $85 for a double in Auckland with free internet and parking was unbeatable. Will def stay again.
We felt the whole hotel needed a good clean from the foyer to the bedroom. The lift was very smelly. The central location was excellent. It was good value for money with free parking and reasonably priced.
Rainbow hotel (otherwise called the 'Sails Hotel') is very well situated a few minutes up from Queen Street, the main street in Auckland. However, this is almost all it has going for it. Our room was so dirty that it seemed it had never been properly cleaned - used cotton buds in the corner of the bathroom, spider webs in the corners of the room, slashed vinyl headboards with trash stuck into them, mysterious stains on the duvet and blankets, no air-con and windows that couldn't be opened because we were on the ground floor in some kind alleyway. The reception staff were nice and very professional, but otherwise I would say give it a miss and don't be tempted by the low prices.
This hotel is a couple of blocks from the Sky Tower, but in all ways an easy distance from most things. Owned by a Hong Kong group, managed by someone from Taiwan and staffed by help from the hinterlands of the PRC. Don''t be surprised by a large Chinese clientele coming and going in bus groups, and the small "essentials" that one finds in China in your room is a small "plus", but the standard Kiwi breakfast is optional, is a "minus". There is a very useful coin laundry room on the second floor, and a Chinese oriented restaurant on the ground floor (with pictures of America Cup Racers)! All things are quite new and well maintained, but wall outlet plugs are in strange places and furnishing while new can be of odd types. Perfectly satisfactory for a budget accomodation. Just try to remember when you head out the door that you are in Auckland, not Hong Kong.
Hotel under new management, now called SailCity Hotel.10 min walk to city centre.Room size good and clean.Staff friendly.Breakfast cost N$10.00 continental and N$12.00 full breakfast, must be ordered by 9pm the night before. No smoking in rooms or anywhere in hotel.Self laundry at N$2 for 30 min and N$2 for dryer. free safe deposit boxes.
I would not choose to stay at the hotel again. It was in a very convenient situation for Auckland itself and was good for anyone on a budget. But the decor in the rooms was very dated and dull.
The room we occupied overlooked a very dark and narrow alleyway, however the facilities were everything that was required. The staff at the reception were extreemly polite and helpful. The Hotel is conviently situated and excellent value for money. It appears that they mainly cater for overseas (Japanese) visitors. Excellent for a short stay.
The room is quite clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. This hotel is loacted in the central area. There is free internet avaliable in the lobby.
The light was broken in the bathroom. We were able to check into our room although we arrived during the morning. This was very helpful for us.
