The location was great. Within walking distance, if you like to walk, of the Forbiddeen City, and the Drum and Bell Towers. Also around the corner were little resturantans and food stalls. The Hotel had a grreat free breakfast.
Overall the Hotel was a good recharge point. I didn't travel around the world to spend all my time in the hotel so not having things such as cable tv or room service were not a big deal. the lcoation of the hotel is about a block to the Forbidden City and Behai park and close to the subway. Taxi's are everywhere and are relatively cheap so no worries about transportation. There are two restuarants in the hotel. One western, the other Chinese. The western lounge\cafe has a pool table and a younger crowd but it is comfortable and the food is not bad. The Chinese restuarant has a decent breakfast buffet inspite of the weak coffee. I would not recommend going there for other meals unless you speak Mandarin as it can be difficult to communicate your order (the waitress I dealt with had little english skills but certainly tried). If you are wondering about bringing a laptop to surf the internet or view your digital photos - bring it. While the hotel offers free internet and PC for rent, the PC's are in Mandarin so it is very difficult to perform an action on the PC that isn't within Explorer (I had to update a PC with Java to reach my companies VPN and it took about an hour). As far as recharging\plugging in electronics: The rooms have built in adapters to allow the western style (USA) plugs without needing anything additional. Keep in mind that if you plan to charge your camera\cell phone while having breakfast -don't. When you leave the room you'll take your card with you which will turn off the power to the room. The power only works when you place your room card in the slot near the front door. Great way to save electricity, but a bummer if you were counting on your camera\phone being charged after breakfast. If you are looking for a hotel that offers food, hot shower, clean safe room (might be small for two people) and a central location the Redwall is a great choice.
The hotel is an easy walk or even easier rickshaw ride from the Forbidden City, Beihai Park, Tiananmen Square, and lots of quaint restaurants. The nearest subway stop is Dongsi. The room was quite small, but very clean and had free wi-fi. Tea and an electric kettle were provided. There was ample hot water. Breakfast was not included in the hotel price but was available for about US$6. The hotel offered a prompt laundry service and there is a no-commission foreign currency exchange office on-site which was very convenient. I highly recommend for anyone on a budget looking for reliable, clean accommodation on a quiet street that still manages to be in the heart of lots of action.
The hotel is nice.Staff can communicate in simple english language. Restaurant dont offer so much western food.Simple foods only. Good location ,of ill come back ill book again in this hotel.
Only some staff could speak English ,so difficult to communicate sometimes. Otherwise good located and nice breakfast for a small cost .
Location is the best reason for staying here, it's less than 5min walk to the north (rear) entrance of the Forbidden City which is perfect for getting in at 8.30am and beating the crowds. The subway is a 20min walk but still quite accessible for other sights e.g. Summer Palace and Olympic stadium. The concierge staff spoke great English and were extremely helpful, there is a business centre for booking tours and rooms were clean and reasonable. Note the free Internet access is only if you have your own computer.
Wonderful location, right next to the forbidden city and a little local market just around the corner with restaurants, food stalls. Concierge staff are always helpful. Not all staff speak English but would stay here again.
The service staff is competent, they give fast service when needed. The only setback is that there is a strange smell when we first enter the hotel room which disappear after about 2 hours. The hotel is rated as good with some improvement needed in checking for any non-working lights and safe which fail in room.
The toilet is quite smallas compare to normal
impossible to get a taxi to take you back to the hotel from inner city. tried 5 taxis on different days & times but all refused to take us when we gave them the hotel address. must be prepared to walk long distances as subway & buses not close.
We had a great stay at the Redwall. Being English only speakers they were forever sending us off with written chinese notes to get us to drinking areas, peking duck restaurants and popular tourist destinations. The staff where fantastic. Breakfast was the only let down but if you like grease you will love it!
Quite close, walking dictance to forbbiden city south site. But the price a bit high for small room. Next time come to beijing , pick hotel near to subway 'cos very convenience to all the best loacation and cheap.
Very slow to help me at reception when I was departing and in a hurry (taxi waiting). Room wasn't ready when I arrived so I was offered a free coffee which I had while waiting, then I was asked to pay for it.
The room was cold when we arrived at 1am and the bed was the hardest i've ever slept on, i think the floor would have been as comfortable. We only ate in the resturant once because it was so cold, most people eating there ate with a coat on. On the plus side, all the staff were extremely pleasent and helpful.
We did not have any problems with English & staff were very friendly and more than helpful. We were given an upgrade to a Chinese room, which looked a treat, but the bed was against the wall, so we asked to be put back to a standard room. The standard room was quite nice & a little more spacious. Carpets were a little old, but room & bathroom were clean. Hotel was located very close to the back entrance of the Forbidden City, so was within walking distance. Breakfast was a little more Asian than my husband would have liked, but was still okay & edible. Needed to get there early for more variety. Overall our stay was comfortable and certainly value for money.
Service was excellent Beds however are like sleeping on a concrete slab. This hotel must have searched the world for the hardest beds possible ( i actually checked to make sure that they were actually mattresses) Other than that this is a GOOD hotel
Decent hotel for the price. Located near the forbidden city but a little far from the nearest subway station. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was tidy. Would consider staying there again.
Wonderful stay. Friendly staff who were happy to let us practice our Mandarin. Comfortable rooms - recommend the traditional rooms. Clean. Perfect location. Will definitely return.
excellent service, staff was very very helpful Defiantly will come back next year
Located at the opposite side of Peoples square but near the north entrance of the Forbidden city. Rooms are OK, but bathrooms are tiny. Restaurant is ok, but is not value for money. Also has a small travel agency. They can order train and airline tickets for you if you plan to travel around China - convenient.
