We had no problems with this hotel and felt that we got what we paid for. The hotel was very affordable and in a great location (a quiet, residential neighborhood in the Upper West Side just a few blocks from the subway and Central Park). The rooms were small and bare, but were relatively clean and included a small fridge and sink. The staff at the desk were helpful and even let us look at the room before deciding whether or not we wanted to check in. While we're not sure we would necessarily stay there again, we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel based on some other very negative reviews we read before we left.
The place is pretty good for a night or two. Don't expect too much, it's a place to sleep for a cheap price. Old building needs a lot of work, but everything worked, no bugs, and bathrooms were clean. Nice part of the city to stay in, free on-street parking in the area, or a reasonable parking garage just around the block. The "Large" size room with 2 double beds was a comfortable size. Nothing fancy about the place. I would recommend if you are looking for a cheap safe place.
One double bedded room with shared bath.
Phone in room did not work, which meant we had to travel down 4 flights to use a public phone. Room was very clean everyday, clean towels provided etc. Location not too bad and front desk helpful when needed.
Very basic.
Hallways were old and dingy. 2 of the 3 washrooms on the floor were acceptable. 3rd one was from like 1937. Large dbl room was quite large and spacious, clean. Free parking in front of the hotel!
If you are on a budget and don't need a private bathroom then Riverside Studios may be the right hotel for you. It was relatively clean and was only two blocks away from the subway. The hotel itself is located relatively close to the action in midtown. Your money doesn't go very far in New York so this hotel is not a bad choice.
Obviously this isn't the most glamourous place in New York, but for the price I was pleasantly surprised (I was expecting noise from the highway, possibly dirty rooms etc) I'd recommend this place to people who plan on spending most of their time out in New York (i.e not sitting around the hotel), as it has all the basics at a very good price - and you get your own room. The people I wouldn't recommend this place to are those who are picky about having their own bathroom/shower or those who plan to hang around the hotel a lot on their trip (there's not much to do, and my television was quite fuzzy). Overall I was happy enough with this place to book a further 3 days when I returned to New York a week later, so that about sums it up for me.
Facilities are basic but quite adequate. Staff were friendly and helpfull. Good Location and Good price. I would stay there again
It does what it says on the tin, it is a clean, well located, no frills hotel, there was a problem with the water not being hot and for that Norman, the very polite receptionist gave me a refund of $20, I would recommend this hotel if you are on a budget and I would stay there again.
The hotel is very barebones, but it's in an excellent location, the rooms and bathrooms were always very clean, there was air conditioning (a necessity for New York), the staff was always very helpful, and the price was right. I would definitely stay there again.
To my relief, this hotel was nicer than the comments I had read led me to imagine. It was clean and decorated in a sort of "folk style" (floral-painted country-style furniture) which I appreciated. It was quiet (ecept for a few floor stomps from a resident one floor up) and the air conditioner worked. The view from the window was pleasant (a treed courtyard below). The bath room was adjacent and very clean. The receptionist was gruff but tolerable. The hallways were like a "rabbit waren" and the elevator was an antique. But the location was first rate and the neighborhood quiet and very pleasant. We were lucky and got a free parking spot just across the street. All in all it was a good experience.
The staff were friendly & helpful and the room was freshly painted & decorated and spotlessly clean. The (shared) bathroom was not always so clean and could do with a revamp to take it to the same level as the room. The location is good. Its only a short subway ride from Times Square and in a clean, safe and quiet neighbourhood.
Ok hotel. Perfect for a couple of days stay. Wouldnt recomend it for longer stays!
My room was bet. a shower room and a rest room. I felt strange.
The building is old but inside the room you feel safe. There are bathrooms very very old.
the only cheap hotel in new york where none of the bad reviews referenced infestations of any kind. very nice for the price, actually nicer than my first nyc apartment when i lived there.
Bed bugs!! No fire exit maps on the door and the maze of narrow hallways makes one feel very disoriented.
New York (specially Manhattan) is very expensive, so this one was affordable for a short budget. My room was small but clean and comfortable for the price. Old building: corridors, elevator, bathrooms all pretty old and barely functional. Heating too cold or too hot.
Very helpful desk staff. Big rooms, but drafty and the blinds didn't close properly. Great bath towels but no private bathroom. Appreciated having an elevator. Good neighbourhood, and close to the subway.
Does the job, no more no less. A place to store your stuff while out on town and a bed protected from rain and wind.
