Royal Hotel Bangkok Guest Reviews

4 out of 5

This is an older hotel in a great location. Unfortunately the area around the hotel has degraded over the past 10 years. It was once considered a luxury hotel and there are still touches of luxury that remain, but it needs some updates. However, it is a good price, near the palace, museum and not far from the river (boat rides). It is safe (security at the door), clean, comfortable beds, good breakfast included in the price and the staff are great. Recommended for the adventuresome travelers, but not for the 4-5* hotel types. Ask for a room in the back away from the street.

The Royal Hotel is perfectly located for tourists within walking distance of the Royal Palace complex, Wat Po Monastery, National Theatre and Museum, Chat Phao river piers. This once-elegant hotel needs a rich sugar-daddy to renovate and update - the lobby once was elegant, with marble floors and carved wood reception desk, but the formal lounge area is furnished with kithenette- style formica-topped tables and aluminum chairs. The rooms have nice marble baths, but the furniture is plywood, and the doors and drawers stick. There is a swimming pool, with no shred of greenery to soften its setting Service was friendly and helpful, especially with suggestions on where to go taking into account the flood situation. For a one - night stay to hit the tourist high spots, this was ok; for anything longer,I'd look elsewhare.

The location to the major tourist locations eg The Grand Palace and the river are excellent. The hotel is more than adequate for the 'average' type of traveller. Would recommend.

Great location in old part of Bangkok, close to Khaosan Road, the river, the national museum and art galleries and Grand Palace - great rates and very friendly staff. Should be 5 star.

Royal Hotel is a great value for mid-range lodging options in Bangkok. The inside is pleasant and clean, the breakfast is decent, and the location is unbeatable. It's within walking distance of the Grand Palace and tourism orgy that is Khao San Road, though crossing the traffic-filled streets on foot can be a challenge. Getting to the hotel from the international airport (Suvarnabhumi - BKK) is easy, since it is one of the last stops on the Airport Express bus AE2 (150 THB).

The location is great for the Royal Palace and access to Chinatown is best achieved using the river taxis. The main gripe we had was the quality of the buffet breakfast-poor choice of food and they did not keep the cooked food warm.

A nice & friendly hotel, if you want to be close to the temples & khao San Road area this is a good location, & getting to town is still a cheap 30 min taxi ride away. Would stay again.

Nice staff, nice service, nice location close enough to all amenities. I liked the 24 hour coffee shop. It's nice to know you can get food and drink whenever needed. Also no extra charge for safety deposit box is commendable. All in all a good, pleasant hotel at a reasonable price. A good introduction to Thailand for the jet-lagged traveller! I'd definately stay there again.

A good place to stay for visiting the main temples and the river. Also the famous Khao San Road is just a minutes walk away. The people behind the reception desk could be little bit more friendly.

The location/price ratio is excellent. If you are not too picky about ambience this is a good place to be. Difficult to understand why the hotel does not invest in some emulsion paint. Its cheap and would work wonders for the appearance. Breakfast perfectly good. Twenty-four hour coffee shop turgid. Adjacent Chinese restaurant ('Sky High') more than compensates with a wide ranging menu. Go on - risk it.

It's a bit tired but it's in a superb location and it is so cheap you can't complain! Ask for a room higher up and at the back - the ones on lower floors at the front are very niosy!
