Getting there:
Russell Cottages is local in Central Russell. YOU MUST ARRIVE BEFORE 10pm as that is the last car ferry to Russell from the main land. From Auckland - take state highway 1 to Whangarei. From there, follow direction (north) Kawakawa. From there, follow direction Russell/Paihia/Bay of Islands. At Opua, turn right to the car ferry (available until 10pm). From car ferry landing, Russell is 10 minutes away. Alternatively, the old Russell road from 20km after Whangarei on the right is a beautiful scenic recently tarred road (1/2 hr more). Or from Paihia (buses from Auckland direct) by passenger ferry every 20 minutes until 10pm.
