Rutherford Hotel Nelson

Very nice comfortable hotel in the heart of downtown Nelson. Easy walk from hotel to entire Nelson CBD. Staff are friendly, and room service is even available throughout the night. Haven't yet taken the opportunity to sample the hotel's own restaurants.

Comfortable, city centre hotel with service that is generally at least "good", sometimes better

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights Feb 2011. Reception was excellent, very friendly and efficient. We had booked from 23rd as per our confirmation letter however the hotel had us booked from the 25th fortunately they had rooms. We were given a nice dual aspect room on the top floor-9th with a city view across to the bay. We thought we would be away from any noise of the road or town nearby but unfortunately there is a late night-1am music club too close that has a rowdy crowd til 2am. The swimming pool is too small to swim in. The shower head needs changing as it leaks onto the floor and toilet otherwise not a bad hotel. We should add that we have stayed 3 times at the Trailways Motor Inn in a lovely room next to the river. This is in a much quieter position, the facilities are more modern and it gives equally easy access to the town.

The location is excellent; 2 minutes walk to the main street and a plethora of eateries/bars and great shopping. The hotel is clean and tidy and we found the service to be excellent. We will definitely stay there again.

Modern and well presented hotel in central Nelson. Clearly caters to the business/conference/tour market, but the rooms are large and the bathroom excellent. Also has a gym and is only a few minutes walk to town and easy to park a car. Maybe lacks a bit of character compared to smaller hotels in Nelson, but has all the facilities that you need.

All fine with excellent service. Room 408 however had no connection to an outside line. Local calls needed to be dialed via the operator.

I think this hotel was excellent. All decor and every part of hotel looked well kept and cared for. Staff were very helpful and went the extra mile to assist. Very impressive!

The Rutherford was a pleasant surprise. Its standards surpassed what I had expected from a provincial hotel.

Our room was very nice however the location was quite noisy as we heard alot of street noise throughout the night. There was no extractor fan in the bathroom which fogged up a lot, also when having a shower water went everywhere because the screen was inadequate. Apart from this our stay was enjoyable.

The hotel room was a surprise. The room is spacious and tastefully modern and very clean. The only let-down was the restaurant. Menu is rather limited. I cannot comment on the other restaurant (Japanese) that is within the hotel as it was closed the day we were there. The staff were very helpful and courteous. I would go to the Rutherford again.

Great central location. Front desk very helpful in booking ongoing trips and touring services.

Handy location to cbd. Very nice foyer and good service. Lack of facilities in the room ie. no fan in bathroom and no dishwashing facilities. Very squashy room for the price.

Stayed here over Christmas and found the hotel to be lovely. Newly decorated, spotless bathrooms and good front of house staff, all in all a lovely stay.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and have always found it be very pleasant to stay at. Beds are extremely comfortable and staff are friendly. My only complaints this time were that the water pressure in the shower was not very good but it may have just been this particular room as I have never had this problem before. Our TV was also a bit small - I would expect a larger flat screen TV in a hotel of this quality but again I'm sure this has not been a problem in the past.
