Resort is dated, but clean and the staff gives great service....beyond what we would normally expect. Snack bar needs some improvement (greasy hamburgers and very limited menu) but the other restaurant meals (all inclusive) were excellent.
I was a bit concerned with all of the negative reviews with this property. Yes, they were doing maintenance, but a resort this size will always have something going on. It did not effect our stay. I have stayed somewhere around 10 different all-inclusives in Mexico and Sabor had the best tasting food of all...presentation could have been better. The Italian restaurant was the best of the three. Wear the proper attire or get turned away. We spent 8 days at the resort and everything was just fine. We met some real nice people who will be life long friends. We will go back again
I enjoyed my stay at Sabor. Location is good, ocean is warm and clear, you may need water shoes to enter the water because of the rocks. End of Nov - beg of Dec is a perfect time for vacation - weather was wonderful and very few people at the resort. Food was great - I am not easy to please, cooks are creative and accomodating. If you do not see what you like or have any dietary restriction - just ask, they will make what you want. Staff is VERY friendly, helpful and accomodating, they usually would go out of their way to serve you. Somebody complained about not getting welcome drink. What is the point? Bar is right there - just pick what YOU want
I had a great time at the hotel. It was a host hotel for Ironman Cozumel. They played the role well, and their 3AM breakfast on raceday was excellent. The room was wonderful, the bed was comfortable, the shower had plenty high-pressure hot water. There was even a filtered water dispenser at every unit so you could avoid the tap water if you so chose. It's beach was solid, and there were plenty of available activities. Food was pretty good, especially the fish. House wine was borderline undrinkable. Stick to the cocktails. I had one MAJOR complaint. The internet access here is TERRIBLE. On one side of the hotel, it was available only in the lobby, and was mediocre at best when it was working. On the exclusive side where I stayed, it was supposed to be available in all the rooms. My laptop could detect the network, but never get more than 2 bars of wifi signal strength, which was barely enough to check email. I eventually sleuthed out where their router was housed by wandering around the lounge/pool area and found a spot that worked, but it was a lot of trouble. If you're on vacation, and trying to avoid internet....no problem. However, I'm in academia and always have something I'd like to work on in my down time and internet access is critical. Also, c'mon, where's the hot tub? Adult-only vacation resort with no hot tub, really? Elsewise, great stay, and I'd come back. It's worth the few extra dollars/day to be on the exclusive side and have access to the additional restaurant though.
We stayed at Sabor Resort from 11/11 to 11/17 2011. We had paid extra for an ocean view room and we were told our room was not ready and to come back at 3pm. When we came back we went to the room which was not only NOT ocean view but you could not even see 1 inch of water. We went back to the front desk and the girl said that we have to pay for the OCEAN FRONT to see water. I told her that isnt right to pay more and be put in the same section with people that pay less and that ocean view means we should be able to at least see the water a little. Finally we were given a room that we could see the water if we step out on the balcony and look to the left. It was fine. It was room 2822. The next morning we took one key and went to breakfast. When we returned we noticed that the 3 full bottled waters we had purchased and left in the room were gone and we could not find the other room key. We never even used the key once. The maid had been to our room and cleaned while we were gone. So i immediately went to the front desk and told the girl there at about 10 30 am bout our 3 bottled waters missing and the key. She seemed not to care stating that the maid takes the water from the room if she thinks it is empty and that the key was not taken. I told her that the bottled waters were full and not opened so she could not have thought that they were empty. I asked for my bottled water back and the key but we never got either one.. I was kind of upset because the girl at the front desk seemed to think it was fine for the maid to remove our property from our room and not return it, Also we were not offered another key and had to go all week long with only the one key. When we checked out the guy that checked us out said we owed $10.00 and I explained to him that was wrong because we only made one local call and it was $1.00, He said ok and changed it to $1.00. I turned in the towel keys and the one room key we had and he said I had to turn in the other once. I explained how the key disappeared the 1st morning were were there from our room with 3 full bottled waters. He said we have to pay $5.00 for a lost key. I told him we did not loose it- it was removed from our room. Her would not let us check out until I gave him $5.00 extra for the card key.I told him I did not think that was right and that we had planned to return in Sept next year but may not since what happened was not right. He said that was up to us in a very uncaring voice. Our items were taken and we didnt get them replaced and not even an apology and then they had the nerve to charge US!!!. I was never told we would be charged for the key card until we checked out. We really should have been given another key card the 2nd day of our trip when it was removed from our room but we were never even offered that, We liked our stay at Sabor. The entertainment was very good and my husband went scuba diving 3 days. We met a bar tender named Issiac that could really make drinks and found out he had gone to bar tender school. The others all made very bitter drinks that we could not drink( hated to waste them but we had to bring them back every time). The food was really good. We ate at Robertos and Musiac and it was good as well.We stayed the last 4 times previous to this at El Cozumelendo so the rooms at Sabor were not near as nice but 0ur room at Sabor was was clean and comfortable and we dont need a huge room anyway.. I hope you will take the time to respond to this because we really wanted to return next Sept. But feel were were not treated fairly and the front desk people had a very uncaring attitude.\ Sincerely Barbara Farrier room 2822
very beautiful resort, great staff, comfortable beds, great food.. a word of advice, up grade to sabor islander room, it is not just a room upgrade it is the exclusive area, with pool, swim up bar & moasaic resturant...dove with dive palancar, [ in house dive op] they were great....
Hotel was nice, beds were very hard (almost impossible to sleep on), very few choices for food and drink. It was nice but not up to the same standard we're accustomed. Loved the pool and slides. Our vacation was cut short because of a hurricane so we really only had 3 days to experience the resort.
the staff , the staff most helpful of all to make our stay fun and exciting. Returning in may for some more.
We had an absolutely amazing time at the Sabor!! Staff, especially Claudio, were extremely helpful!!! We will definately be back in April loved it!!!
We'll definitely be back!!! We really couldn't believe the value!
My husband and I had a very nice stay. The hotel was spotlessly clean, the service impeccable, and the staff beyond friendly. Warning - they are a "green" hotel, so they do not have straws for drinks, and ashtrays are scarce and by request only, so if either of these things are a big deal to you, better bring your own. Our first room was on the 3rd floor, and it was late in the day before it was cleaned, which was no big deal to us. But, after our A/C broke and they moved us to the first floor, we then saw how much better it could be. These first floor rooms have entries directly into the pool from your balcony. It seemed weird to me when I reserved the trip, so I didn't opt for it. But, it's really very cool. The hot water to the bathroom was noticably better on the 1st floor as well. The hotel property is "shared" with the Aura hotel, and you are allowed the run of either hotel (pools, restaurants, beach, etc.) Breakfast and lunch were good no matter where you ate. For dinner, they have restaurants with an oriental menu, a polynesian menu, and a steakhouse menu, but no other choices. It was a little bit of a stretch to find dishes without seafood (which I cannot eat). But, everything we ordered was fantastic, and artfully presented. Oh, and if you opt to rent a car for your trip, (which we recommend so you can really tour this island) this hotel can be a bit hard to find. You go from the airport, and left on the main road. You go through town (be careful here) and then past the cruise ship terminals. Eventually, you'll see a sign that points to a turnoff to the right for the Fiesta Americana hotel. If you don't take this road, you'll never find the Sabor on your own. Quite a ways past the Fiesta Americana down this narrow bumpy road is the Sabor and the Aura. You'll learn that when you want to drive back to town, you'll exit the Sabor by turning right. Almost immediately there is a left turn, and another left. This is the "main" highway, and is much quicker for traveling back and forth. You'll need to choose landmarks for traveling back to the hotel this way, however, in order to take the right turn. Oh, and be careful of crabs and havelina's crossing the road. Enjoy. It's worth the trip.
I traveled alone to this location on a dive trip. The rooms were fabulous with great views. But I found that in the evening it was not lively at all. I think they need to add some entertainment in the evening in the way of music. The eating areas were very small and portions were very small and limited. Looking at the exressions of some of the staff, they did not look happy at all, or happy working there. Maybe it is the off season though. Overall I enjoyed my week long stay.
I just spent a week at the Sabor. I went by myself to relax and possibly do some diving. After check-in I realized that while I was staying in a Sabor room, most of the Sabor restaurants and facilities were closed down for the slow season. I was allowed to use all facilities open at the Sabor or the Aura. This meant that things were a bit farther apart than I would have prefered, but it wasn't a serious hardship since there was usually a pool or restraunt close. It did make it tough to meet people though since there wasn't really a central gathering place. If you're single and looking to mingle this doesnt appear to be the place. It was all couples and dive groups the week I was there. There were no buffets so meals were always a sit down affair but they had the best food of any all-inclusive I've ever been to. It's not often I order steaks or prime rib when out of the country but I had both, medium rare no less, and they were excellent. The fish was all fresh, usually grouper, and properly cooked. That said, I usually go to some of the cheaper all-inclusives so keep that in mind when judging. I had cold water in my shower for the first 3 days but it was my own fault for not calling it in. As soon as I did it was fixed. As usual, the booze was watered down, but I got no flack when I started ordering doubles. If it wasn't top shelf, I couldn't tell. It was in top shelf bottles. The beer was Dos Equis. Beach chairs, clean beach towels, and dinner tables were no issue, but that may be because of the season. All in all I had an excellent time. Oh, and no kids allowed. Heaven...........
Well here is the incredible thing!!! I booked "Wyndham Sabor" for 12 days at $1200 including airfare and was upgraded to "Wyndham Aura" for no extra cost! It would have been $3300 for the same 12 days if I had booked it there!!! WOW! I loved this place!!! Food was excellent and to order! I asked for shrimp tacos at the "Hava Grill" (Not on the menu) no problem! I asked for "Sautéed Mushrooms" on my steak... no problem! I asked if they had "Mango Juice" they said they could blend some!!! Service was incredible!!! Everyone was calling me by my name by the third day!!! My hat is off to the Manager- Cesar Morengo and his Staff!!! (He manages both Sabor and Aura!) Sabor is very fine, but Aura is Luxurious!!!
We found that Sabor was closed for the off season. But was Upgraded to an Aura Suite that is connected to the pool from the back patio. Staff was very friendly, We were not hounded to listen to their presentation like other reviews said. We read alot of reviews and thought we may have made a mistake, But was suprised at how good the food was, and the Room was better than expected, We mostly ate at the Aura Grill an found nothing what so ever to complain about. After being there for a couple days they opened Sabor, and were able to go over and enjoy the slides and food, again very pleased. I really don't know what other people are complaining about. With the awesome price we got and the upgraded room and service, we could not find anything bad to say about this place. Would we go again?? In A Heartbeat!!! I would not hesitate to book at Sabor or Aura. The only down side was we booked a snorkel tour with our Orbitz Rep and the trip was cancelled on us 3 different times. Still trying to get our refund, But that wasn't the Hotels fault. Plus When going into Town I would suggest renting a car for the day to see the Island, Cab fair at $15 each way a little steep. We have been on several Cruises, and Many All Inclusives. This I would rank in the Top "3".
The location we purchased was not full enough and we were relocated to another section of the resort. They said is was an upgrade. The location was an upgrade but not to amemities. The Sabor Exclusive has 5 bar locations and 5 eating locations. with three pool areas. The one we were at had 2 bars and 2 places to eat and one pool. The pool was right next to the ocean whixh was an pleasant upgrade. The food was execellent. We were hounding to sit through a time share presentation more than 5 times. Turn off.
Rooms are dirty and the property is run down. Food is good, Robertos is a very good restaurant. Overall a good value for the money.
The pool turned all my white clothes green and my hair had a greenish tinge. I was advised by a member of staff to put tomato ketchup on it to get rid of the green! The food was satisfactory although not very inspired and surprisingly not as "mexican" as I would have thought. The cocktails were good and the staff friendly. Cozumel is a beautiful island and although I have read some reviews that complain about the sea/beach being rocky you need them for the snorkelling. Had one of the best massages ever at the spa.
