Very good hotel, great central location, nice stuff.
liked position in backstreet overall good value
This hotel was so so. While it was fairly clean and in a great location, it smelt smokey and drab. We stayed in a nicer hotel (other hotel) prior to this and was an A+ hotel the same price. I would not stay here again due to the fact that I think you can get a better place for this price. Only stay here if you get a bargain price. Definately not the worst hotel you could stay in but its not as nice as it looks in the photos.
Clean, looks nice, good breakfast (the dinner at the hotel was not good) walking distance to the park and the forbidden city. There's a great cafe with good coffee, hot chocolate, fruit and pancakes on the corner in the Chinese building (go left from entrance, walk 100 metres) and a (now very rare) soviet-style communist memorial to the right from the entrance and left round the corner (4 minutes walk) close to convenience store and fruit shop.
this hotel was in a great location. the room was clean and had everything we needed, however no window so it was a little strange. also on this website it advertises free internet, it is not free, although rates are around 10rmb for an hour.
Very good location and very good price. The staff are extremely helpful and will ensure you have a wonderful stay. We stayed there three nights. We are walking distance from all the main sites, and we will definetely stay there again. Happy to recommend.
Great location and recommendated. However, the front counter service has to be improved.
Sha Tan can not be faulted
Great location! Right behind the Forbidden Palace. Staff very helpful and rooms very clean. The first room they gave us though had problems with the airconditioning system so they had to move us to another room.
Couldn't have been more pleased with this hotel. It's so close to the Shingshang Park which leads straight into the Forbidden city (but if you hire the audio guide then go in from the south end as it makes sense from that end!) The only downside was that taxidrivers couldn't find it until we had the cards from the hotel once established there. We particularly liked that it was in a street that was totally authentic and not touristy. There's a supermarket and every typical kind of 'outlet' found in China in the street as well as a more western cafe at the mainstreet end. If you can't find it, get to the east gate of Shingshang Park and the 'backstreet' is alomost opposite and well-signposted from that end only! But last message - "Don't tell everyone or they'll all want to go there it's such good value and brilliant location."
The Air conditioning did not work, so each time you come back from a day trip the you find the room stuffy and hot like a basement boiler room. The room also has no windows so you can get some fresh air through..Also the rooms have very thin walls so you can hear just about anything.. The only thing good going for it is the friendly Front Desk staff, and location just 5 mins walk to the Forbidden City
Room not serviced on one day out of five. Air conditioning not working on arrival and once fixed failed the next day. No real concern from hotel staff. Had to keep window opened even at -6C to abate the heat. Adised in writing notto drink water from taps in hotel but charged for using a small bottle of water in room. Location good but given attitude of staff would not stay again. Walls between rooms thin and all can be heard!
The hotel location is excellent, walk to Bell Tower, Drum tower, the South wall and 2 minutes walk from the airport bus stop. A 24 hour supermaket is next door. The price is very reaonable. The room is good but old bathroom. Nice staff but speak little English.
location good staff helpful but doesent seem to give info on the area around hotel what to do or where to go for dinner or drinks even though it is twenty min walk to the lake with many resturants and bars sauna not working
Staying at the Sha Tan Hotel was great--for location, front desk service. The front desk gave us the hotel business card and wrote out the address in Chinese for taxi drivers and on the other side, we checked which tourist site we wanted to go in both English and Chinese. They showed us a map and pointed out things we wanted to see and told us the best transportation to use. They were quite helpful. Everything was clean except the carpet in our room. They tell you the price on everything in the minibar, but they have a rack of condoms and sex toiletries with no prices, which we paid for at checkout. They don't tell you they cost. Everything else was great.
In general is it good hotel, good location, clean, kindly people and price is reasonable. Just one point the breakfast service was limited and can be improved.
this hotel is situated in the back street among the local shops which was great to experience, the location was near a lot of tourist sights , the alley cafe on the corner has great western service and europeans visit it daily. Not to far to walk to the shops and the night markets either. The staff were helpfull although there is a bit of a language barrier.
I was surprised how good the hotel was and how cheap the price were. The softest bed I have had in china. The deluxe room was great and had everything I needed plus more. A+ from here, compared to the price.
We rate this hotel as very good. It is close to all the large attractions, such as the forbidden city etc and central to all locations. There was always a staff member on duty who had good english skills. They have a half day booking at the [your website] rate, which is great for those flying out later in the day. Hotel arranged a great taxi ride to the great wall. However, taxis are hard to get in this location. There is a restaurant across the lane called the red garden pestaurant, great food, english menu and no pests as the name suggests. Small rooms, but you get what you pay for and we would happily stay again.
Fabulous. Right in the middle of real Beijing. All manner of life outside but safe as houses as well. Nothing like a standard western hotel thank goodness. The only drawback was that breakfast as in a very warm room with no windows! Otherwise we would return there every time.
