Established in 1898. One of Auckland's icons and one of the last remaining corner hotels left. A 10 room boutique hotel offering the perfect location to explore the sights and sounds of Auckland City. From this central city location you are only a couple of minutes walk down to Auckland's waterfront, ferry's, buses and the Britomart train station. Being in the heart of the city the Shakespeare Hotel is in the perfect place for business or leisure, surrounded by the city's main business district and key tourist attractions. Each room has it's own private bathroom and are completely renovated and decorated in light modern colours. Every room has something different to offer some have small private decks so you can take in some sun. There is no lift available on the premises. Two bars and our own fully functioning Brewery on site, established in 1984 it was New Zealands first micro-brewery to counter the monopoly the DB and Lion Red brewing giants had across this country, to this day our learned gentleman Brewer Barry Newman is still brewing 10 quality ales, lagers, wheat beers, stouts and various other seasonal specialities as the mood takes him.

Getting there:If driving, take the direct route (Route 20) from the airport to the central city. After exiting the motorway continue down Nelson Street and turn right into Wyndham Street. Alternatively, airport shuttles or taxis will alight you at the front door, Please feel free to contact us prior to arrival and we shall be happy to arrange for a taxi to collect you at the airport, we have a discounted rate set up with one of our local firms specifically for airport arrivals/departures. If arriving via the airport bus, you will be alighting outside the SkyCity Sky Tower, from there walk directly down Federal Street from the Sky Tower and turn right onto Wyndham Street (the entire journey is a leisurely 4/5 minute walk)
Check-in Procedure:We do not have 24 hour reception. Our opening times for check in are 9am til 11pm. Early or late check ins may be facilitated by contacting the hotel and notifying us at least 3 days in advance of a booking. However in the off chance that the room you may be occupying is unbooked for the following day, a relaxed check out will be fine.
Car parking:We are unable to provide off street parking, but would be happy to furnish you with car parking details either by email or by phone.
Child Policy:Children are more than welcome. Although NZ liquor law still applies to all aspects of the Taverns two bars and the Pokie Gaming room.
Great place to stay, only thing I would have to comment on is the TVs, I think you can only get one channel in most rooms.. Otherwise, fantastic stay!
Rooms could use a tiny touch up, great to see the mini fridges are back in the rooms! Still very happy with my stay again! Thanks Shakespeare and Staff :)
A double room with ensuite. Comfortable in light modern colours, on the first floor of this lovely old hotel.
A Queen bed and single bed on the corner of the 1st floor of this historic hotel. in warm light decor, Prices are for 3 people.
On the top floor of this historical hotel, with private bathroom and shower. Queen sized bed and warm welcoming decor and colours. Each room is different being an old hotel with many stories to tell.

Beautiful old Hotel with Modern rooms, would stay here every weekend if I could!
Place is tidy and handy location, Only we didn't have any hot water in the morning we were leaving so a cold shower left us abit disappointed. But for the price still would go back, just check you hot water.
Very central to everything in Auckland. Very clean and comfortable place to stay. I had an ensuite which was very clean and had a lovely shower. I stayed on the top floor and you do have to walk up stairs. Only a little street noise.I would recommend it to anyone
Very small rooms with limited facilities, but a great place to crash for a night or two if your main focus in getting out and about and seeing the sites of Auckland City

Good location for exploring the city. Room was very small, but clean & had a good 'feel'. Staff were friendly.
Compact room, but commensurate with the price of the room. Comfortable bed, but noise from street quite obtrusive. Not suitable for light sleepers !! VERY handy for ferries and trains so depends what one's priorities are.

Please note we were transferred to The Albion due to double-booking - so this is a review for the albion. Will not be staying there again - The room was nice and seemed very good value but I had to ring reception TWICE because of drunken teenagers in room next door 10pm and 1am). They finally left just after 1am. 3am we were still awake so decided to leave and went home for decent few hours sleep! Pity as it seemed a lovely character place but you get what you pay for regarding guests.
A great little hotel. All you need for an overnight stop in the city. Will definitely come again.

Nice room. double room was a good size for 1 and had an ensuite. The room was technicaly clean and tidy, besides the odd thing i noticed, eg. old cleaning cloth on my side table and miror was a bit dirty etc, but nothing major.
The room we booked hadn't been serviced when we arrived. When we raised it with staff, we were upgraded to a better room, free of charge. The rooms are quite small and are not lit very well. However, for the price, I would say the rooms are great, and the shower had great pressure. The hotel is also in a great central city location
Great location right in the CBD. Quiet on our stay there but pub downstairs that stays open 24h so might not be the quietest place to stay on a weekend. Comfortable beds.
For the price definetly will stay again, the person at the bar was extremely friendly and very welcoming
