Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa

This resort is good for BOTH families and couples. Kid would be happy to play around the pool area with waterslides, night entertainment for kids. Couples would be happy, there are are some quiet areas, like small private beach, distance-from-pool area for quiet out-door sleeping/reading. Famous Sun Set? No better location than this resort in Kota Kinabalu. (not kiding) The balcony has a ceiling fan, great great great.... If I want to pick a bone, The breakfast buffet has many many many variety of food, and they change the menu every day (We stayed there for 6 nights. No manu was repeated.) However, the taste of food was very light. (I means for those hot food - it wouldn't be a problem for fruit/salad/toast/egg/cold-cut eaters.) If you are couples, The coco Joe BBQ dinner should be enjoyable. For couples, Sunset Bar is a must try for Sunset (although actually you could see good sun set from other spots in the resort.) Pls be there latest 5:30pm otherwise all the chairs would be grabbed. (Sunset time is always somewhere around 6:00PM) For families, you are better not going to Sunset bar to avoid disturbing the romantic feel -- there are many spots in the resort for good sunset. I believe this resort is the top one in KK,enjoy..............

I love this hotel because it is a complete package though I think they should start renovating their rooms but the overall experience was really fantastic

Enjoyed the stay at the resort. The resort has been around for a long time but is in very good condition. Close to KK city which is handy. Staff were very friendly and accomodating Due to the location, there are not that many other eating options available - you needed to take a cab to KK city.

Our family (2A & 2C) just spent 3 nights at this resort and it was a luxurious get away. We stayed in the kinabalu wing which entitled us to use the Kinabalu club. The staff were very helpful and pleasant even though the club was very busy at it was Christmas. The resort was very close to the airport and the centre of town. I can recommend it, but it is not cheap. Malaysia is not a cheap holiday destination. Don't expect any bargains.!!!

Simply the very best hotel in the area and one that we have travelled back to every time we visit the area - we even detoured our holiday flights to stay at the hotel. Outstanding staff and food with easy access to the city

Absolutely everything about this resort is fantastic. The location is great, not too far from the town, plenty of water activities and ferries accross to the islands. Very freindly staff who could not do enough for you. Would highly recommend to young, old, single, families etc....

Service from the staff at Tanjung Aru was beyond expectations. Friendly smiles and bowed heads with hands over heart greeted you everywhere. This hotel makes days relaxing and nights magical. From the food to the hotel room to the pools everything was fantastic - including the value. My partner & I would return in an instant.

Fabulous, sensational, loved every minute!! Kids had the best time ever, kid club was unreal, super hotel!! Highly recommend it, great value for money, superb location, all good!!

Excellent resort hotel with first rate service and very friendly staff. Good base from which to explore North Borneo and the hotel provides good information on the various trips available. However, the main town of Kota Kinabalu is a bit of a disappointment. Better to travel out of town and see the natural sights of the rain forest. F&B outlets were all very good, however the buffet breakfast gets a bit hectic. Staff in all outlets were very friendly and service was excellent. Great snorkelling at the near by island and well organised recreational facilities back in the resort. Rooms were very comfortable and well maintained. First rate hotel and I would recomment it to anyone.

This resort was excellent. The staff were so friendly and extremely helpful. The room was very modern and spotlessly clean every day. Breakfast was excellent and varied, but other meals worked out quite expensive at hotel rates, plus 15%. However, there were free activities on the hour and there was a Kid's Club for the young ones. I especially liked the fact that there was pier at the resort, where we could do various water sports and take day trips to the outlying islands. There was also a shutte bus into Kota Kinabalu at regular intervals at a reasonable price for shopping and/or restaurants. You could also take a trip to the sister Shangri-La Rasa Ria on the shuttle to view the orangutans. Tanjung Aru has a great location, but the beach isn't much to speak of.

The Shangri-La has an excellant FREE Kids' Club for kids 4 & up. Their babysitting rates are very reasonable too.
