SilverOaks Hotel On Thorndon Wellington

The hotel is next to the botanical gardens, so its great to get up for an early morning run, but requires a taxi or car to get to the restaurants and bars downtown, but is pretty close to the ferry, overall I would stay there again, but would tell other people to not expect much.

This is an ideal hotel for a budget traveler. The place could benefit from a renovation/facelift, but it's still quite clean and comfortable. There is a restaurant on the premises and it is literally across the street from the Botanical Gardens. From the hotel, it's an easy 15-minute walk into downtown Wellington. It's also on the number 3 bus line if you prefer not to walk.

Great location across the road from the Botanical Gardens - lovely walks, cafe, access to cable car and downtown Wellington. Right outside bus stop with cheap frequent fares to take you downtown. Cute antique shops down road diaries restaurants, pub to watch the rugby!! and Parliament buildings just round corner. Hotel needs some urgent TLC though, but room comfortable enough if all you want to do there is rest, sleep and shower. I would go back again as convenient for what we wanted it for.

This hotel is situated opposite the Botanic Gardens in Wellington - an easy walk to the Thorndon Village shopping area and to the Parliament precinct in Wellington. The staff are hospitable, the hotel is basic yet good value for money. Will stay there again.

This hotel is situated in Thordon - close to the Botanic Gardens and the Tinakori Road shopping area. Very handy for access to the Government Quarter. Friendly staff and value for money. Warm and clean, with great restaurant costings as well.

Older hotel and a bit worn in places but clean and friendly staff. Good proximity to central Wellington and off-street parking is a bonus.

Nothing exciting about this hotel. Old building, quite old furniture and everything inside but the staff is very friendly and helpful, room and bathroom are clean. The parking is a good thing as well.

After seeing both good and bad comments on this Hotel I still booked in for 3 nights and found to my satisfaction that numerous adverse comments were either not true or unwarranted.The staff were most considerate and helpful,the unit was large,spotlessly clean,with TV, telephone, ironing board and iron, a mini bar, and coffee making facilities,(even a teatowel -not found in hotels generally) , the bathroom likewise was spotless, with soap dispenser, and good quality towels etc. Numerous lights in the unit, plenty of drawer space and a good sized wardrobe. The bed was large and comfortable with clean fresh sheets and pillowcases. Add to this the complementary transport to trains and ferry, as well as having the City Bus stop in front of hotel which makes it extremely handy to all parts of the city. While the carpet needs replacing which is planned for, I could not fault this hotel especially when it is the most reasonable priced hotel in Wellington. I recommend accordingly.

Perfect location - close to town and great parking. There are very quiet rooms on the northern side where there is absolutely no noise. While some of the decor and facilities are tired, the staff make up for those shortcomings, being friendly and helpful. I stay often and always enjoy my time there. If one needs to ask for anything, staff are very responsive.

The only thing that let down this hotel was the fact it was so old and obviously in desperate need of a makeover. Also some items in the room didnt work, such as light over bed and remote for TV. Otherwise we would defintely stay their again as the service was outstanding and the location excellent.

Excellent location! I attended a wedding at the Begonia House and Hotel perfect. Overall the hotel is very tied and in need of some serious refurbishment. Dated decore and furnture and no matter how clean, the carpets are old and grotty and furniture the same. My bathroom was good. However would stay again.

Centrally located, comfortable reasonably priced city accommodation for a family of four, would stay there again.

good place to stay - great location - walked to cable car which was nice before dinner - helpful receptionist and service good from friendly staff - would stay there again!! rates to go so easy to use!!

An ageing hotel but all facilities are provided and staff are friendly and the location is great.

on the whole the hotel was all we needed the staff were very helpful and was handy to the city if you dont mind the walk up the hill afterwards or there was a bus stop right out the front door for what we paid 4 the room it was ok . A little TLC and this could be a more appealing hotel to guests and some more signage would help.
