It's well-located near Houhai, a paradise for pubs, night clubs, interesting shops and restaurants. The hotel features old Beijing architectural style. If you want to have a taste of living in the old Beijing, it will be great to stay there. The only demerit was that there was a fly in me room, as I lived at the first floor.
This hotel is located at the entrance of a Hutong. If you don't mind the dusty and somewhat shabby environment outside the hotel and you like the nostalgic idea of living in a very old (but restored) courtyard house it's ok. In our case there were renovation works going on nearby in the Hutong with the associated drill hammers starting before 07:00 am. Make sure that you get the room which you booked. In our case only the third room was more or less what we expected. Our (standard) room was about 14m2 plus a bathroom of about 4m2 with a very large and comfortable king size bed. But because the bed was so big, there is little room for the suitcases and to move around. There was a massive amount of dust bunnies under the bed though. Unfortunately everything of the 'warm' local buffet breakfast was cold despite food was stored in containers (but the heating was turned off). Only eggs are fried while you wait. Another good thing is that the subway station is only 2 minutes away.
nice traditional style hotel. Staff are the nicest iv found in any hotel in China. 2 minute walk to subway. Has a tea room, private VIP dining room, restaurant and proper SPA centre on the 2nd floor, garden with pond, walkway with birds. Stayed in a standard twin room. Small lcd on the wall. Complimentray green tea in room. Bathroom is ok, some users complain of the shower being near the toilet bowl. Theres nothing wrong with this. AC is good. Overall a surprisingly pleasant change from the usual hotels in china.
what i received for the price was amazing. the service would have been very good if the staff spoke more than very minimal english. however, i feel this was because the location was in a very local area and didn't have the need as most western hotels do. the staff was very nice and accommodating. they provided me with an adapter and internet cable at no charge. trying how to explain how i needed this was not easy though. the local area had very little to choose from in anything but very tradition chinese cuisine. such as chicken feet and roasted pigeon. i'm not a picky eater, but ended up eating elsewhere. i travel to china all the time and i would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Rooms on the Standard Room Option, was very small barely enough to be able to walk around the kingsized bed. The shower was so close to the toilet that there was no way of keeping the toilet dry after a shower. Upgrading into a court yard room the bath room was much bigger and better, but you could have not have a single bed option. The bed room was still small.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stay in a reasonably priced hotel close to the Houhai area. The staff were helpful and friendly. The only drawback was the filthy carpet in the room which could do with a good hoovering.
Very pleasant receptionists and concierge. Room smelled a bit funny, though.
Amazing traditional style hotel, close to subway, restaurants and hutongs. Beautiful courtyards and buildings. We really enjoyed our stay.
