Somerset Gordon Heights has its own reception desk now (previously this was shared with the Gordon Place property now managed by Quest) so checking in is a little faster. The 'executive' apartment though is even smaller than I remember - perhaps because it now includes a small table and two chairs for which there really isn't enough room. Good for a one or two night stay if travelling alone but it would be very cosy with two.
The rooms were older style rooms and are in need of a piant job. the rest of our stay was very good. Comfortable beds and seating in the room. The staff are very helpfull at all times.
Beautiful apartment, close to shopping, theatres, china town, free circle tram and all attractions. Have stayed here many times and will keep coming back. Only thing missing is they are not serving breakfast anymore which we always enjoyed, but are close to many cafe's that serve nice breakfast
Very comfortable, neat complex in a great location to get around without a car. Stayed in a 2 bedroom unit, it had plenty of room for 2 adults & 2 teenagers. The main negative for the apartment was that one of the bedrooms was next to a machinery room so it was a bit noisy. Also a mjor storm the night before arriving resulted in some wet carpet in one of the rooms. Would be prepared to stay there again.
Location is great, right in the heart of the city, near Chinatown. Lots of food choices. However apartment is a little small, especially the bathroom.
Our booking was for a 2 bedroom executive apartment which only has 1 bathroom. This was fine by us as the price we were paying was very reasonable. On checking in we were told that the 2 bedroom exec. apts were booked out, Instead we were given a 1 bedroom deluxe apartment and an adjoing double room. This proved to be much better than we expected as both the apartment and the room had a bathroom and we were all able to enjoy the lounge area of the apartment. The apartments and rooms are immaculate, the service was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a location at the top of Little Bourke St close to Spring Street.
Originally booked this hotel, but got a call the day before my stay to say that due to maintenance issues I was being moved to the sister hotel Somerset on Elizabeth. The room was OK, but lacking in crockery and kitchen facilites. The room was cold as the AC could only be changed by 2 degrees so we had to use extra blankets then found the room had none! The pool was not a pool, but a large spa. However the location was great with Myer and DJs next door.
Was a nice stay as always for business visit. Very close to good restaurants and cafe and the gym is adequate for a short stay.
The hotel its self was not very nice. The level that we stayed on has such a horrible smell and the room smelt off to. The room was not too small but don’t expect an extremely clean bathroom or amazing decor like the pictures may have you believing, its nothing like the pictures. The car park is miles away! And once your car is parked in there you can’t take it out again within 24 hours or you get charged a ridicules hourly rate! I was staying there for my birthday and I had an extremely bad experience with some of the other guests. I got abused by other guest, was called things that I would not even repeat, just for walking past them in the lobby. Which made the whole experience horrifying. The staff where very nice and helpful.
We chose this apartment out of all those in this location because it showed it had in apartment washing machines & it didn't !!! Only because I insisted that we were given different accomodation did we get an apartment with one (lucky it's early season I guess). The information on the web site needs to be updated / clearer. We stayed over the road in Gordon Place instead, it's "fine".
the room was tiny - trouble getting past the table to the bed. Bathroom in poor condition - cracked tiles/shower door not closing/tiles grouting missing/poor repair on floor drain/mould... Price not bad.
Staff were great. We moved around a couple of rooms and they had different ietms in each room, e.g only one champagne or wine glass in the first two rooms and only a couple of pots and pans. In the last room there were a full complament, but no umbrellas.
Don't trust those nice pictures. Everything is quite small and a bit older in reality. Especially the bathroom is tiny! This made us double check at the reception if we really had the executive 2 bedroom apartment - we did... Location is great though. Not too noisy and close to everything. Is it worth the price? Not sure...
Was very clean, the staff were courteous & helpful as our dvd didnt work but the staff had it working quickly. Was a great location to the theatre & china town & just a short stroll to high tea at the windsor also. At night was a little noisy from the side street noises but otherwise was good.
For future visits we would ask to stay in the main building as you can open windows...we were placed up the road in a building with no option to open windows
I was disappointed that there was only one glass in the kitchen cupboard (but there were two in the bathroom). The blowdryer blew up while I was using it but I rang downstairs and they brought one to me straight away. Overall it was a good apartment but the only thing I didn't like was the fact that the parking was so far away. It would be a perfect place for the traveller who did not require parking.
stayed in unit 204 ,good unit but for the noise 1.connecting door made the room loud because when the units next came home you heard them slamming there doors because no soundproofing.2 every time the next unit used there toilet or shower you heard the whining of the pipes.3 at 1.30 am all the bars would empty there bins with bottles/rubbish.then 5.30 the trucks would empty the bins.Would be good units if you stayed away from the laneway.
The room was of a good size and the staff were very helpful. I really like the location of this hotel. However, we are non-smokers placed on a smoking floor which smelt terrible. The staff were helpful in trying to remove the smell with deodoriser but the smell did linger. The staff were also able to relocate us to a non-smoking room for the second night of our two night stay.
Rooms were very small and living area was small. One bedroom the door wouldn't open fully as it hit the bed and there was no room to put the suitcase. But a great location and we didn't spend a lot of time in the room.
Perfect location for the theatre we were attending. Good price, bed was comfortable and linen changed daily. Would definately stay here again, great value for money.
