Takayama Ouan has brought a new fusion of hotel styles to Hida-Takayama, combining the clean, simple rooms of a business hotel with the traditional materials and all-natural hot spring baths of an onsen ryokan. Takayama Ouan has plenty of modern amenities like free internet, laundry area, and an excellent location next to JR Takayama Station, but by far its most impressive feature is its rooftop hot spring overlooking the streets of Takayama and the surrounding mountains.

Near to JR station, very clean & nice room with titami flooring. Have 3 private hot spring rooms. Very good service from staffs & good breakfast.
Stayed here for 2 nights in Nov 2010. Good location in terms of being near the station and not having to drag your bags around town when you arrive/leave. Takayama is small so it's only a 10min walk to the old town anyway. Reception took the 3pm check-in time a little too serious but that's the case all over Japan. We were still able to drop the bags with the front desk on arrival and come back early evening to complete the process. Room was 100% clean and bigger than expected. All amenities provided. We were on Lvl12 with great views of the mountains. There is a Japanese style bath on the 13th Floor including 3 private baths. Very nice. I recommend a time between 3pm - 6pm for the private baths though as it gets extremely busy later on. No hesitation in recommending this hotel. It's a great compromise between Western and traditional Japanese accommodation.

Fantastic place to stay, different as the whole hotel is lined with tatami mats so you need to take your shoes off on the bottom floor. Room was a nice mixture of traditional and modern. Additional plus was the onsen at the top of the building! what a great view!
Nice hotel- very japanese though. Has the tatami mats throughout the hotel so you leave your shoes in a locker in the lobby- slightly annoying! Lovely little room, lobby looks like a homewares store. Can be a difficult one to find however as nowhere on the outside of the building or inside for that matter does it say the hotel name in english. Very close to JR station which is handy. Overall very nice!
Awesome new hotel in Takayama. Room wasn't large, but very nice. The onsen is amazing - the best I visited in Japan. Not a complaint at all.
Nice hotel very close to the JR station. Rooftop baths are a great way to finish your day. You can soak in the bath whilst overlooking Takayama. Staff were very helpful and welcoming.
The hotel is a short walk, about 5-10 mins, from the train station. It is a japanese-style hotel but perhaps with the convenience of a western hotel. The floors of the rooms and the lifts etc are all tatami and you need to take off your shoes and store them at the lockers near the hotel lobby. The staff were friendly. The onsen or baths, while not natural mineral water, were a good experience and for the shy ones, there are 3 private baths. Take the room with at least the breakfast. The japanese buffet breakfast was enjoyable.
Staff was helpful to explain the timing/locations for the festivals. staffs are courteous and polite. The food there is also very delicious. Hotel location is very good.
Great traditional place that I would recommend to anyone. A good combination of Western and Japanese styles. Loved it
