At our arrival, we were greeted by a very pleasant and helpful staff. Our biggest surprise was walking into our room. At first, we thought we had stumbled upon an office or closet of some sort. But it turns out each room has a theme - ours was a laboratory of a doctor in the 1800's. Imagine sleeping in the midst of dusty jars of critters and pictures of human anatomy! We loved it! The hotel also houses a bar on the ground floor, and can be a bit noisy at night. But I didn't really mind. The location couldn't be more central on the Royal Mile. Just a great location.
I LOVED this hotel. The staff were all young, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The location was literally in the dead center of the historic district with great views. The room was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable with a great tv and dvd player. I can't recommend this fun place enough-you should stay here. The only reasons it might not be perfect for everyone is there is no mini fridge or hair dryer and all rooms are up at least two long flights of stairs with no elevator.
The staff were very helpful and although I arrived early they very kindly allowed my wife and myself to go to our room even carrying our cases to the top floor. This hotel is very central for sight seeing and well situated for eating and drinking. I will most certainly use it again.
spacious room and big bathroom. some noise from the pub below when having live music
A very little nice and charming hotel. Good breakfast and nice staff.
Very nice and warm people. A bit noisy on the saturday night but there is double windows so if you close won't hear anything. Great place to go. In the best possible place.
The themed rooms are great, there is no lift so this may not suit everyone. Had a brilliant stay, with a perfect location, right on the royal mile.
Staff were friendly and approachable. However the " hotel " corridors and stairs were shabby with empty bottles left by previous guests. The room was interesting and the theme idea was good. However we had better breakfasts, cleaner facilities in cheaper B+B's in the city. We felt that this hotel did not represent good value for money.
Overall, this was a pleasant stay. The location is brilliant if you want to be in the centre of the city. The reception isn't great, as it's just at the back of the bar, but it serves the purpose. There are a lot of stairs, so if you're not able enough for stairs, this isn't for you - I don't think there's a lift. The room was nice, the bed was comfy, and the shower was really good. We were in the John Logie Baird suite, which has a lot of character, as I imagine the rest of the rooms do - all different I believe. The breakfast was very good. I would recommend to people who aren't looking for a flashy modern hotel, this isn't that, but it has character and is very central.
Very odd decor and furnishings in the room (including the skeleton of a small animal in a case and large moths and insects in frames on the wall). Not a pleasant room to stay in and very limited facilities elsewhere in he hotel.
This hotel is fine, but it does not have a lift there are seventy nine steps in total.
Every room has a certain different style - great!
A great hotel with lovely indivdual rooms. Staff were very friendly and most helpful. Breakfast was 1st class. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation in recommending it.
