I was visiting Washington, DC for the first time so for me it was really important to stay in comfortable hotel with a good location and with a "fine" price. Location: Hotel located just 2 blocks away from main part of Downtown. It is walking distance to metro and to everything. (downtown and closest areas anyway its a walking distance). Room: I was staying in a room with 1 bed. Room was small but clean. Anyway for me as a woman the more important area is a big bathroom in this hotel room. Service: Personal of this hotel was really kind and helpful. Benefits: breakfast time was the best part. 6 to 9 am you have an opportunity of really good breakfast at the lobby of this hotel. U can find everything necessary important and stay full till the evening.
This room features a comfortable double bed suitable for one or two travelers. The room features a private bath, color TV with over 50 cable channels and one double bed.
The largest rooms in our hotel are perfect for groups up to 4 people per room. This room features a private bath, color TV with over 50 cable channels and two Double beds.
A small, old, slightly the worse for wear hotel was.nevertheless rather pleasant. Located in a good neighborhood with many European guests. Our room was a little cramped, as was the dining area.
I was a little worried about what we would find considering some of the reviews I read, but I found this hotel perfect for our needs considering it was less than half of the price of hotels in the vacinity. Our room was actually quite large, but I had reserved a double. The beds were very comfortable and we had no trouble with noise. We were quite lucky because we were placed on the 1st floor so we didn't have to deal with climbing steps. The furnishings and decor were just fair, but were there only to sleep and more into spending our money on sightseeing and dining than on elaborate accommodations. It was probably about a 3/4 mile walk from the metro station but we soon found that only a block away by the 7-11 there was a metro bus we could ride to get almost anywhere for $1.70 or the Circulator bus across the street from Caribou Coffee for $1 so we felt it was very convenient because these buses come every 10 minutes. The breakfasts were crousants, muffins, breads, Belgium waffles, cereal, juices, coffee and te4a which was a handy start to each day. If you want something fairly close to museums and attractions in DC and don't want to pay a lot then I think if your not too picky about decor that you will find this hotel will meet your needs.
The location was great - only six blocks from the White House as well as the Yellow Hop on Hop Off bus stopping 100metres away. However the room was very pokey - access to the double bed was from one side only as it was up against the wall with about 2 feet on the access side. The elevator was not working which meant climbing to the third level with luggage - not convenient for 70 year olds!
For the price, this place was great. Walking distance to nightlife. Metro stop a few blocks away. The place was a bit dated in it's furnishings/ appearance, but no complaints. Everything was clean. Breakfast was a bit skimpy, but at least there was one. Staff was very helpful and didn't complain about our loud, large group. Would definitely stay here again.
An excellent location and very good prices! A very good value for money..
If you want a budget stay in Washington D.C., this hotel is a good choice. But do not expect coffee maker in your room. The lobby is the only place where you can get coffee, tea and hot water to drink. So if your room is on the first floor, you will be fine. But if you stay at the second or third floor, you will have a hard time. By the way, the elevator does not work. So you have to carry your luggages to the second or third floor by yourself. The first room they gave me was on the third floor (304), which was cold small and dark. I found out the shower was not hot enough and then they gave us room on the first floor (107) which was much better than the previous room. I was happy that the shower did not work well so that we can get a larger, brighter, and more convenient room. They provide free breakfast. You can put your luggages there after check-out.
Very well positioned hotel for all there is to do and see in DC.Helpful staff and good breakfast included.Price is very good for central DC but Hotel is well worn, but very comfortable beds and a reasinable bathroom. We had been warned by a previous review that the lift would not be working. This was ok for us as we were on the first floor but would have been hard with our big suitcases if we were on a different floor. The walls were rather thin and we were disturbed by our noisy neighbours the first night. However limited outside noise which was good for us as we had been disturbed by a lot of noise at other US hotels. We would stay here again
Well positioned - close to the city - a 4 block walk to the Metro local trains and then only 3 stations to the Smithsonian stop. fair choice of food for breakfast(continental).
Room was too small. Air conditioner was right behind the bed and very noisy. The stairwell was very smelly and dirty and the carpet was in very bad condition. On the hand, the staff were friendly and the location was very good. Much room for improvement.
Excellent location, only a short walk to the white house and transport. Very badly in need of a make over, elevator didn't work and the walls were extremely thin. Worthwhile if you're only spending a minimum amount of time at the hotel, though you won't get any sleep if you have noisy neighbours.
The lift/elevator was out of action for the duration of our stay and there was no hot water for a shower one of the days. The cleaning staff didn't always top up supplies. BUT reception staff outstandingly friendly and helpful. In all though, poor value compared to the new york hotel.
Front desk people were very helpful and friendly and efficient. Price is good for this location.
The first room we were given was very small. To make your way to the bathroom you'd have to move sideways. No closet or rack for the luggage. We asked at reception for a bigger room and were given one that had a bit more space. But still no room for bedside tables. Good breakfast, especially the waffle irons for fresh waffles.
The hotel is quite old and rooms are run down, noise insulation between rooms is very poor. However the hotel is brillliantly located: moderate walk to the Smithsonian museums and the White House, and the Dupont Circle area is has plenty of cafes, bookshops and clubs. It is close to two Metro Stations, a very good supermarket and laundrette. For the money it is a good place to stay if you are not worrried about inter-room noise.
Lots of stairs and no elevators or ramps - beware those carrying lots of heavy luggage. We were given a room on the 4th storey and had to lug 2x23kg suitcases up 4 flights of stairs. The room was clean but surprised that the toilet bowl was not properly 'sanitised'. Continental breakfast in the morning was good if you got up early enough and made your own waffles. Location was good, about 15-20mins walk to the Whitehouse and a little further to washington monument. About 25-30mins to chinatown and a little further to the Capitol. Free very high speed internet =)
The hotel and staff were great, my one complaint was the rooms were not insulated from noise. I could hear people in the hallways and the next room.
The room itself was fine, as was the location. The elevator only worked occasionally, as has been pointed out by others. One of the staff was rather rude to some of the guests. The rest were very nice and helpful.
Fairly priced hotel, close to the center(ca. 10 blocks or ca. 4 blocks to subway. The former Braxton(?) Hotel is under new management and new name. Still some online hotel booking platforms(also rate2go) and Information stands refer to the Braxton Hotel. Cozy hotel, fresh croisants for breakfast. The young stuff is eger to fulfill any wish or handle any complaint. Though the heating + warm water was not warm enough and few guests complained. They offer 10$ discount vouchers for returning guests. Free Wifi to mention, though didn't work perfect on all floors. Since I generally felt good in this quiet and reasonable priced hotel I can recommend it and would return to it, since I liked the rooms+bath rooms. Nice complementary toileteries, newly renovated rooms + baths.
