We got a bargain rate and stayed at the George a weekend before Christmas. I e-mailed the hotel before arrival and asked for a an executive twin on a high floor and received a prompt reply that confirmed my request. The room was reasonably spacious, had a largish swanky bathroom and great, comfortable beds. There was no view from the 3rd floor window and the room showed signs of wear and tear in the usual spots. You cannot beat the hotel for location, it's within walking distance all the attractions Edinburgh has to offer. All in all a very pleasant stay.
This hotel was elegant and well appoiinted. The staff was very friendly from the moment we walked in to our last goodbye. The room was immaculate and looked after every day (we stayed 6 nights). The bed was comfortable and the atmosphere could be regulated nicely; plus the heating/air was very quiet. Full Scottish beakfast was plentiful and excellent, again with friendly and attentive service. This was an excellent location in New Town: George Street near St. Andrew's Square -- an easy walk to old town, close to shopping and restaurants. We would definitely go back!
From start to finish our stay at this hotel was fantastic. The staff were so helpful and friendly, our room was beautiful and our breakfast was excellent. The location of the hotel is great for shopping and sightseeing. I would highly recommend this hotel.
- Good Location: This hotel located on the George street just a 5 mins away from princes. - Nice staff: Staff is polite and nice however they quite busy all the time because the hotel is really fully booked. - Clean room with compact size We stayed in executive double bed room. Room is clean however to trade with good location room size is not really big.
It was my 1st time in Edinburgh, and had just one night and two days to enjoy the city. The George Hotel staff was excellent, gave me a room with a great view, and took the time to highlight the best things to see in the short time I had. I've already recommended this hotel to friends in Dublin, and would definitely stay again.
Came from London on the train with my college aged daughter. Easy short walk from the station. Great location to walk to tour buses, shopping & the old city. Staff was professional and FRIENDLY. Arrived very early, so we left our luggage and visited the city. Came back in the evening to check into one of the best rooms I have have ever stayed in. Small by US standards but beautifully appointed with color choices, lighting, lush linens, furniture and a nice deep soaking tub & shower. The great surprise was the view! Opened the curtains to an illuminated stained glass church window and more of beautiful Edinburgh. To top it off, we had a glass of complimentary champagne to apologize for the scafolding outside. (Loved the utili kilts on bell hops.)
Lived for years in Edinburgh and have a great fondness for the George. Convenient to everything, great food, efficient staff, lovely rooms (though try to get a room away from George Street which is very noisy now with all the tram works diversions).
lovely hotel the staff are always at hand if you require anything. location is exerlent 2min walk to princess street (shopping), and the same to rose street (pubs and restaurants are) the meals in the hotel are lovely and not over priced at goes for the drinks too, breakfast is out of this world from toast to a fry ups they cater for everyone. rooms are very clean and a good size.10 out of 10 we will be going back, soon i hope.
Excellent hotel, centre of Edinburgh and easy to reach from the airport bu public transport. Both hotel and bar personnel knowledgeable and friendly.
Good central location, walking distance to all shops, bars , sights etc...
In the center of Edinburgh; nice hotel, great bar and good service. Hotelroom was at the back of the hotel, quiet and well proportioned.
Lovely hotel in a great location. The room (2nd floor) was big, clean and very quiet.
Great Hotel in a central location - we ate in the Hotel at night and felt that it was good food at reasonable prices...scottish beef and seafood. Would highly recommend this Hotel if you want to be in central Edinburgh.
Great hotel in an ideal location. The rooms are very comfortable and the hotel has an attractive bar area
Excellent high standard. Room was very comfortable and to a very high standard. Service was good and the location was very convenient. I would recommend the hotel and would consider staying again.
The room was comfy and the staff nice, but the in-room internet cable didn't work, and though the staff tried to help we still couldn't fix it. Besides that everything was fine. We couldn't have expected a better location and a lovelier building.
Everything about the hotel was very good except Breakfast. Our breakfast was not hot and therefore not worth the price paid.
Great location nice staff and a very nice bedroom
Good hotel, & location. The only thing we could fault was the breakfast, expensive, & the fry up was poor, coupled with a long walk from self serve unit out in the corridor to your seat.items were sub standard & not hot enough.
The george hotel is in a very conveniant location for rail users. Its facade is elegent as is the reception. The accomodation however felt average, in my case i booked a executive double room. But it felt the same as a standard holiday inn express. The noise interuption from the street life at 3am easily passed through the drafty windows. The aircon/heater was noisy as was the pipe work that felt like it was surrounding us. The strangest moment was when from 7:30 to 8:45 every day there was a monotone pipe blowing noise bit like from an old central heating system. Overall its an avergage hotel that scrapes up to the 4* grade but it just didnt have the magic touch that i was hoping for.
