The Kirketon Hotel Sydney Guest Reviews

4.2 out of 5

We have stayed before and like the hotel. The location is fantastic, walking distance to many great restaurants and also shopping in Oxford St. The rooms are smallish but the beds are comfortable. I like the decor, although the furniture is now starting to be a bit tired. Will stay again.

4.6 out of 5

Good location, close to city and to transport, Individual feel to the hotel, which is a major plus over chain hotels. Thoughtful decoration.

Would be better if able to order breakfast there. Staff were very nice and tried to be as helpful as possible.

Unfortunetely we didn't have the best experience at the Kirketon. The room stunk of cigarettes, there were long hairs over the bathroom floor and on the towels, and I narrowly escaped being electrocuted by the kettle in our room after it blew up (the electrical products have never been safety tested and are quite old). What made this worse was the way staff dealt with it - they basically pretended it was all okay. I wrote to Kirketon management about my experience and they never replied. For this reason they won't get a second chance; I will never stay there again.

Staff were pleasant and very helpful. The hotel was probably uber cool a couple of years ago, but is looking a little shop worn now with the carpet on the stairs being threadbare. Worst problem was lighting which was quite moody, but made it impossible to apply makeup. Also wonder about the thickness of the walls, having been awoken at an early hour by bonking in the next room.

Excellent location but the old building is very noisy from other guests at night. Noise travels in the corridors too easily. The hotel is overpriced for the size of the room and the poorly designed bathroom. Design features are elegant but design should not be at the cost of functionality.

Enormously noisy hotel with very small rooms. Nicely decorated and good use of space but totally overpriced.

Used to love The Kirketon but it's showing it's age now. Not quite shabby but certainly well worn. My room was very small (double bed size room) and windowless which would make it very claustrophobic unless it's just a place to shower and put your head down at the end of the night

This was a delightful stay. Very upmarket botique style hotel with friendly staff, very conveniently located. Rooms are small but well furnished and clean with nice size bathrooms. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and would seek to stay there again if I was in the area.

Hotel seems to be getting abit tatty now, appears to have been once the trendy place to stay and has probably now been surpassed by shiney new venues. Compact rooms have beds that are really too small but otherwise it's quite a comfortable hotel with very dim lighting particularly kind to hungover eyes. Very entertaining to see the clientele in the bar some of whom are trying rather too hard

we thought it was fantastic! perfect location - close to oxford st and close to Victoria St with brilliant cafes. Also, well within walking distance from the CBD. The restaurant and bar are absolutely brilliant! Great food, great wine list and spirit selection. We will definitely be back!

Great location, lots of very chilled out bars and bistro's nearby. Chic and simple rooms with everything you need. This is a budget hotel so do not expect big hotel facilities or concierge type service.

Found the front desk staff very helpful, especially Adrian. Look forward to the new restaurant when it opens as it would make the facilities complete. The hotel is great for independent travellers who don't want to be tied down. The establishment is discreet & elegant without the brashness of a downtown hotel. Please keep up the good work!!

Trendy hotel with modern fitout. Room extremely small with little natural light which needed some bench space or a console table. Friendly helpful staff.
