"Nice room (2 bed apartment), location is a bit far out from the Esplanade, Taxi will cost you around $12 each way. Not many local places to eat (only a Subway and a Seafood Market), local Supermarket handy (IGA) . I thought being away from the Esplanade would be fine since we had day trips booked, but we were really lost for things to do on an evening which spoiled it a bit, you really do need somewhere nice to walk to on a night and there is nowhere at all near this Hotel.
Nice pools to sit around with BBQ facilities but we could not do this as it rained during the duration of our stay and this left us with little to do on days we didn't have trips booked (also when we got back from trips early). Spa (Reds Salon) is very good, little choice of treatments but the ones I had were good" - Anonymous
"Fantastic facilities, beautiful resort, and spacious apartments.
Too far to walk from the centre of town (almost 1hr) - but regular public transport buses only a short walk from the resort.

"The Lakes is out of the city centre, requiring a Bus journey to get into Cairns ( 10 minutes). The apartment was clean and spacious, with an open plan dining/living area. The four pools were excellent and the BBQ's were well maintained and easy to use. Food at the reception was expensive and limited." - Anonymous
"The Lakes is about 35 minutes walk from town, its an easy walk but a bit far. The shuttle bus costs $7. Other than location and the fact the some rooms are 3 floors up with NO LIFTS its great!" - Anonymous
