hotel with a personality, variety of rooms and views. handy location opposite to the railway connection to the airport. walking distance to central attractions and shopping, also fair walking distance from the universities. rooms vary a lot indeed, mine was closer to the canal while friends stayed upstairs in more historical rooms - all were comfortable, nice and well appointed. fabulous breakfast with masses of choices and nice service. architectural masterpiece.
An superb hotel in the centre of Manchester with excellent facilities and very helpful and friendly staff. The buffet breakfast was delicious! Thoroughly recommend this hotel!
Can thoroughly recommend this hotel. Staff could not be nicer and customer service excellent! Rooms fantastic, breakfast a feast! Will definitely be returning.
Hotel old and different, would have been nice if breakfust was included instead of having to pay another £15 also some of the breakfast staff very slow, had to ask for tea and coffee, then the toast, then a fork, then spoons my breakfust was at this point cold!, no one appeared very interested. I would however go back again even though it is a little expensive, the location is resonable.
Stayed at the Palace Hotel for only one night. Location was perfect, and the room was very good value for the price. Breakfast in the morning was very good also. I will definately be staying here again in the future.
very good location - beautiful hotel - good size room and bathroom and lovely decor
The rooms can be better if decorated. but they kept original walls. I felt I was in the local toilet's because the walls were old. Can be very cold at times due to size of the room.
Generally pleasant stay of 5 nights. Only having 1 (slow) elevator to the area where most rooms are led to considerable waits to get down to breakfast; this seemed to be the only service elevator to the meeting room area so was often in use by hotel staff for this purpose. Breakfast buffet was good, although practice of individually ordering coffee sometime when wait staff noticed you after you were seated led to getting coffee after the meal was finished.
We visited Manchester for the first time starting the 8th of April, 2010 and booked the Palace Hotel. We found it to be a brilliant stay. The room (103) was large and very comfortable, airy, recently refurbished and with two queen-sized beds. But what was really excellent was the impressive efficiency and helpfulness of the staff. Every last one of them went out of her and his way to help with all the niggling little difficulties one comes across when being in a city for the first time. We highly recommend the Palace Hotel. The hotel itself is magnificent - a building to see all by itself. Breakfast, though not included in our booking, was well worth the money spent on it. It basically set you up for the whole day. We found The Palace Hotel to be great value for money, position right slam bang in the middle of everything ... and it helped us have a wonderful stay. We'd love to return!
A slightly old-fashioned hotel, but clean and comfortable and with all the facilities we needed for an overnight stay, such as tea and coffee making facilities, the iron and ironing board were useful. The public areas of the hotel are large and impressive, although it took me a while to negotiate the warren of corridors and find my room. The location is superb, being across the street from Oxford Road station and was only a short 5 minute walk to the restaurant on Deansgate where we were eating that night. The buffet breakfast was excellent. My only complaint would be that it was quite noisy in our room, with the trains rumbling past and the police sirens screaming through the night - but that's what you get in a city centre location, so not a complaint as such, more an observation.
Amazing building, nice bar, excellent breakfast, but a bit disappointed in the rooms themselves. No specific gripes - the shower was excellent - but the bathroom fittings and bedroom had clearly seen better days and I didn't feel that the room itself was really up to what you'd expect for a 4* hotel for the room rate charged. The building's architecture throughout, however, made up for this minor disappointment.
Rooms very clean and big enough. View of a brick wall not very exciting but we didn't stay at the hotel for the scenery! Ideal location for the Palace theatre. Tempus restaurant and bar staff polite and accommodating. Would definitely stay here again.
Breakfast arrangements were a bit chaotic. We were told to queue at different ends for the hotplate items which you could understand if they had the same items on each side so we had to squeeze between the people queing on the other side to collect come items. Also being a vegetarian it was nice to see that vegetarian sausages were being offered however they were not readily available, could not be ordered at the hotplate and had to be ordered when we arrived back at the table so what was the point of ordering and eating a sausage after the I had eaten the other parts or perhaps I was supposed to have let them go cold while I waited.
The Palace Hotel is excellently located for access to both shopping and leisure as well as a base for exploring further afield. The quality of service in the Tempas Bar in the evening and the Restaurant during breakfast was of a good standard and I am going to be recommending it to my conference organisers back home.
Hotel room television and TV reception were not up to the standard I would expect of a 4 star hotel.
The building is amazing and the rooms are big, clean and lovely.
Very Good Hotel. Excellent room and location for city centre shops. Not too close but within 15 minutes walking distance of the Arndale centre. Only gripe is the cooked breakfast was warm and not hot.
Our room was very spacious and clean, the beds were nice & comfy too. All the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. I think it would have been nice to have a small pool or spa facility to relax but we still enjoyed our stay and wish it had been longer.
Ecellent city centre location, take train to oxford road and just step accross the road. We were visiting Manchester university - a 10 min walk. Fascinating architechture and history in the building. Room facilities good, breakfast looked good but slightly disappointing.
Very grand hotel, beautiful reception area/foyer. Staff very polite and helpful. Would definately stay again.
