"The room was in need of decorating. We felt because we had got a reduced rate the room reflected this. The hot water was far to hot and could scold you. The heated towel rail in room would not go off the room was unbearably hot and having to have the window open at night to compensate meant you could hear the hotel's boiler/generator all night. Never again give me a travel inn anyday over this Hotel." - Anonymous

Hotel description:

The Red Lion Hotel is an historical Grade 1 listed building (c1465) located in the town centre of historic Colchester. The hotel is one of the oldest inns in East Anglia and has been described as 'a fine example of Tudor England'.

The old Banqueting Hall, which is now the Parliament Restaurant, has a remarkable beamed ceiling. Some bedrooms are furnished with antiques and have a wealth of original exposed beams and wattle and daub walls.

This Colchester hotel is located in the town centre and there are numerous shops nearby including well known chain stores and smaller, boutique-style shops.

The hotel provides a retreat from the modern world outside, and the Tudor features and warm red and gold fabrics within the public areas are very relaxing.

Getting there:

From the M25 take Junction 12 onto the A12 signposted to East Anglia. Follow signs to Colchester (approx 40 miles). Take Colchester Central turnoff (A133) to roundabout taking the second exit towards town centre and at the next round about take the third exit to the town centre. At the next round about take the second exit and continue to the traffic lights where you will turn right going up to the top of the hill where you will bear left onto the High Street where the Red Lion is half way up on your right
