The staff was great, the room was awsome, and the location could not be better.
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive and really make the hotel. The location is central to all the main attractions - limiting the need for taxis. The only negatives were that the bed was small, the room was hot and internet access was a separate charge. Expect old world charm.
This hotel is in a fantastic location in the centre of Edinburgh. The quality of the rooms and service from the staff certainly were as would be expected of a 5* hotel. I had a really comfortable stay here and would certainly return again without hesitation. It also has a free spa and pool for guests- although I did not have the time to try them.
Superb location right in the middle of Edinburgh. Room was great. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay there again.
I can't fault the hotel at all. Service was exceptional as was food. The only grumble I would have is the noise from nearby North Bridge but that might depend on which room you are staying in. I would definitely recommend the Scotsman and look forward to going back.
My previous visits to the City were at b&bs What a lovley experiance this was, good pricing via Hotel Club, and superb accomodation.I will always use this hotel as of now, staff were most helpfull and location is second to none!!!! Parking is 2 minutes away and was discounted,so all in all i would recommend this beautiful Hotel.
Location is very convinient in the city centre but of course a bit noisy. I've been very impressed by the service provided. The food and the ambiance in the restaurant are excellent.
While in a very convenient location, this is a very noisy hotel, which makes very little effort to insulate against sound. In summer it is also VERY hot - most of the rooms face the sun and get unbearably hot on days above 20 degrees Celsius. Front of house staff are friendly and helpful, but the maintenance staff seem to be non-existent; the hotel shows signs of neglect; and a faulty light in our room was still not fixed after 3 days of complaining. This hotel classes itself as a luxury 5 star hotel - it is not - it is an average 3 and a half stars with delusions of grandeur. We stayed twice, at the beginning and end of our two weeks in Scotland; we had a more expensive room on the second occasion, which was nicer than our previous "deluxe" room, but was still hot and noisy and in a poor state of repair. We would not stay there again.
Friendly front desk and porters, slightly scuffed room with oddly placed windows (but it is in a converted building). Good shower and comfortable bed with ample storage. Hotel is a pleasant enough warren.
We were disappointed with the standard of service at the Scotsman and didn't think it was 5 star by any stretch of the imagination, it seemed understaffed and disorganised and our "deluxe" room looked tired and in need of an upgrade. It didn't spoil our stay in Edinburgh at New Year but we would not recommend it.
Interesting history makes the hotel different. No complaints on accommodation or service
very central and plush hotel with friendly staff. Conversion of old newspaper offices so rooms are variable. if you are a tourist and want Edinburgh rooftop views you might prefer a smaller room while a Brit business traveller will prefer more space and less view : so do check room before taking it. Nice basement pool and good gym.
Its central location and interesting public spaces will mean this venue will attract visitors to Edinburgh but they need to smarten up their act. Lifts out of order, clanking pipework and a slightly bashed looks to the rooms detract from what should be a first class stay. The extensive spa and gym need a firmer management hand and the bistro should be producing a much higher standard of fare. This Scotsman is decidely resting on his laurels...
The Scotsman Hotel was a real find - I didn't think we would get a reservation on Valentines day but I did! The service at the hotel was excellent, the staff went out of their way to help, they booked a dinner reservation for us, ordered taxis and were generally really helpful. The room was lovely, very spacious for a city centre and the building was stunning. The pool and health club in the basement was fabulous - we just wished we could have stayed longer!
