Positioned in an unrivalled location in the very heart of Melbourne, The Swanston Hotel, Grand Mercure is a 4.5 star hotel surrounded by the city''s most popular business and shopping precincts, theatres, galleries, bars and restaurants. With vibrant Bourke St Mall right on your doorstep, other attractions like Federation Square, Southbank, Her Majesty’s and Regent Theatres, Queen Victoria Markets and Melbourne Central Shopping Complex are just a short stroll away. Important Note: Yarra Trams have advised that they will be undertaking works to replace the tram tracks on Swanston St in front of the hotel from the evening of Friday 3rd February through until the morning of Monday 6th February 2012. It is expected that there will be a degree of noise associated with these drilling works, particularly on the night of Friday 3rd February. The works will then continue, with a lesser degree of noise expected, throughout the weekend. Access to the hotel will be available as normal, for cars via our Little Bourke St entrance and for pedestrians via our Swanston St or Little Bourke St entrances. Getting there:Being located right in the heart of Melbourne, the hotel is incredibly easy to get to. We are approximately 30 minutes by car or taxi from Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. Alternatively, the Skybus Airport Shuttle is only $16 per person each way, takes approximately 1 hour and will drop you off at the hotel. Advance bookings are not required, simply proceed to the Skybus desk at the airport terminal. Once you are here, getting around Melbourne is very easy, with stops for all main tram routes just metres from our doorstep, whilst Flinders Street Railway Station is a short walk away.
Check-in Procedure:Check-in time is from 2pm. Complimentary luggage storage is available for guests arriving before 2pm.
Car parking:Leave your car at our front door and let our professional valet parking service take care of it. Valet parking is available - charges apply. Our self-parking car park is located in the QV Complex, 1 block from the hotel on the corner of Swanston & Lonsdale Sts - charges apply.
Child Policy:Children under 12 years of age stay free when sharing their parents room and using existing bedding. Executive Twin Rooms have 2 double beds in each room and can accommodate a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children. These rooms are available on a request only basis. Charges will apply if a rollaway bed or an additional room is required.
Standard room were well-priced and spacious, modern and well-equipped. The hotel has the usual sort of facilities: restaurants; bar; cafe; gym; pool. Location could not have been better, on Swanston Street between Bourke and Little Bourke. Will definitely consider staying there again on future trips.

Staff very friendly. Room clean. Bed very comfortable. Room needed refurbishing, rubboer pads not replaced on toiled seat, problem with the tap. No offer of a morning newspaper. Hair products provided but not moistuizer. Reception area, halls and room lots of scuff marks- looking very tired. This hotel was more a 3 star quality with a 4.5 star price - very expenseive for what was offered.

The position of the Swanston is ideal for a 4 day sightseeing visit to Melbourne. In the centre of all must see attractions and within walking distance , although a circulat tour on the free City Circle Tram will orientate you first.
Obviously they have renovated the rooms since i last stayed there, which are lovely. I love the security of the hotel itself and also the gambling section, as we use to short cut thru soul cafe security would always ask my daughter for identification, for me as a mother its nice to know they are doing a great job.
I recommend this hotel and would stay there again!
Awesome location, friendly & helpful staff. Hotel was a little older/outdated than I thought but good value for the price. There was a mis-communication with the SkyBus hotel shuttle pick up location on our departure, but this was rectified straight away.

The Swanston Hotel is right in the heart of the CBD, close to shops, restaurants, theatres as well as being reasonably close to the Victoria Markets. The only thing that I should mention is that the shower over the bath leaked even though it wasn't on full blast - so had to reposition the bath mat. Otherwise, would recommend this hotel for your next Melbourne stay.
quiet bad sound proof of rooms, so can heard very clearly next door's action. i was unlucky to get a neighbor that still watched tv loudly at 3am. other than that, all's good.
