We were very happy with the room - it was quite large with a TV and a nice view. It was up 2 flights of stairs, but that was ok! The ensuite was small but clean (the floor in front of the shower was VERY weak and creaky..usually tried to step over it!). Initially our introduction to the care taker was a bit rude - he hadn't yet received our booking notification and he wasn't impressed that we had woken him up (at 4pm!!) but once he went through the paperwork he was very nice and helpful, helping us to our room and answering any questions we had about the area. Breakfast was nice, an extra 5GBP for the hot meal, but this was explained to us and we had the option. Overall we were very happy with this location and would be happy to stay there again if we return to Edinburgh!
A nice B&B with friendly service at a good price. Short walk from town (though we found takes a little longer in deep snow!). Only minor quibble would be that our room was a little chilly (large ground floor double) - Though we were in the middle of Arctic conditions with 2ft of snow outside. Our friends twin room on 1st floor was toasty warm however.

We arrived late at night as indicated but the proprietor seemed surprised and reluctant to let us enter. After that awkward moment he acted like a real gentleman. Place was nice and comfortable and I would recommend it for budget travellers which we were.
A basic B&B. It was a short 20 min bus ride (at just over 1 pound) from Edinburgh CDB. No restaurant is nearby, though there was quite a good chinese restaurant 1 to 2 km away towards town with a very friendly proprietor.
For the price, this hotel was fine. Checkin experience was poor as I was told I would have a room without an ensuite toilet or shower (not indicated at the time of the booking) and had to pay extra for a room with ensuite facilities. I was also told I had to pay 2% surcharge for using a credit card and a lot of pressure was put on me to pay cash. I used a debit card in the end. Room was clean but beds were old and uncomfortable. I would not choose to stay here again.
Room was very clean, though not enough spacious. Stuff was really helpfull and friendly. We had to take a bus to go to the city centre, something that made it quite difficult to return at night (not frequent night-buses). The heating was not sufficient enough (for some countries 14C isn't exactly "summer"). Overall, our stay was fine.
if i was staying in edinburgh again i would return to The Thistle House
Basic accommodation at basic price. Helpful with request for breakfast before 08:00.
A very pleasant bed and breakfast facility. The staff were very good and attentive. The cooked breakfast was very well prepared and enjoyable. Will go back when needing accomodation in Edinburg again.
not a bad distance from city centre, ten mins on bus. very friendly staff, continental and cooked breakfast all included in the price, excellent value for money.
a comfortable small hotel,a nice spacious room, very reasonably priced and near to the city centre. a substantial breakfast was included. we would certainly stay there again. The only possible problem would be for parking as the hotel appeared to have no available space. The alternative is to park in the nearby streets.
Lovely B&B within walking distance to Arthur's Seat and only a short bus ride into central Edinburgh. Pleasant room only marred by the thin curtains that fail to block out the early morning sun - could have lived without being woken up at 4-4.30am! Wireless internet provided at no extra charge. Helpful proprietors.
Overall I had no complaints - only hitch was that the room I requested wasn't available for my first night there, but I was offered free hot breakfast (standard room rate includes continental breakfast only) to make up for that.
Great out of town guest house. Much cheaper than city centre and has good bus connections into Edinburgh at £3per dayticket. Breakfast was basic cereal/toast/juice/tea+coffee and full english. Room was a decent size, bathroom could have been abit cleaner. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay very much.
I was there with my family and it was pretty good. This is a good hotel and the price was reasonable.
excellent stay, very friendly, very good bus service into city
i stayed there 4 3 nights, the room was clean, quite,it was cold in the night ,heating sysem was out of order, but the hotel team were friendly & supplied a smart effective portable heater, the brakfast was good with varities of col/hot dishes :)
Thistle House was not that close to the city but was very handy to buses which took about 20mins to the centre of town. Remember to get an all day pass which gives you access to all Lothian buses all day except night buses
Bed side lamp was not working, had to use main light at bed time. Railing in main hall going up to room was loose and didnt feel too secure. But over all it was a pleasant and calm atmosphere.
breakfast was a choice of cereals and fruit juice followed by bacon egg and sausage. i am vegeterian and they made me a veggie breakfast. i was asked if i wanted any more. nothing was too much trouble to them. would recommend this hotel to anyone.
